I really don't think the dub or the games had that much to do with his hype. It might of added to it (especially since the dub might of been the first time many saw it) but he was already hyped long before that. The dub didn't come out until August 2003 and B3 didn't even come out until November 2004 and I remember him being hyped for as long as I've known about him (got the movie around 1997). Heck I remember the guy that I bought the movie from gave me a fan made power level list and it even said that Broly's power raised constantly.

I actually wouldn't mind Broly continually getting stronger, as long as theres a limit. Say, if he reaches a certain level, it becomes too much for his body, kinda like Rigor in SSJ5 from the DBNA doujin. The body could only handle so much before it starts breaking down under all the energy. I mean when he transforms into his LSSJ form his old body literally explodes into the new one.

He is huge, he is green, he is a Super Saiyan, he is an uncontrollable crazy psychopath with blank eyes that doesn't so mercy, he is one of Goku's personal enemies, and he kicks his opponents asses every time he is shown (only to be beaten at the very end though). That's why I think most fans like him, and that's why I like him as well.

I personally dont remember that to be honest. I used to like Broly when I was younger but his fanbase has just ruined him for me. What I used to think was a awesome and original villain has been reduced to a ripoff of SSJ Grade 3 with a pitifully half assed back story and reasoning. His LSSJ form now seems totally unnecessary to me now.

And while I don't talk to any girls about this, he might also be popular due to his va having lots of fangirls.

As a DB fangirl I can tell you that there's not a lot a girls who are into Broly. At least not among the circle of friends I used to hang out with. Broly was really popular with the guys.

Ehem, to be completely honest, base Broly looked really Interesting.

And during the first part of the second movie, before he goes all muscular, he's a keeper.

I liked everything about Broly in Movie 8 except for the whole hatred of Goku stemming from the fact that he cried as a baby. I'm not one of those people who say "Vegeta should have killed a Major Villain despite not being the Main Character" but I think the film would have worked better had only Vegeta and Trunks gone into space. Mainly because I actually liked Broly and his father's connection to Vegeta and his father.
