Thoughts on Attack of the Saiyans (DS)?

Post by Jord » Sun Sep 08, 2013 7:58 am

What are your thoughts on this little DS RPG?

I like it quote a lot as I'm replaying it for the first time. I actually like a lot of the filler that fills in blanks for the fighters between Raditz's arrival and the arrival of Nappa and Vegeta. I also liked that some characters can use attacks that they would learn a lot later in the series like the Hellzone grenade. Customizing and deciding what attacks you want to develop is also something I wish every RPG had.

Some things I didn't like where things where the filler went too far IMO like Goku joining everyone (while dead) to look for the DragonBalls. That takes a lot of the drama of Goku's return away. I also really disliked having a hard time with fighting 'normal' enemies like ex-Red Ribbon soldiers and bandit foxes. It looks really stupid when post Raditz Goku, Piccolo and others can't blow those guys away with a few punches.

All in all a good game though. Shame we didn't get a sequel.

I am not finished with this game yet, being before the Raditz fight. But from what I've played, I really enjoy this game a lot!!! This is what Legacy of Goku should have been and I'm kinda sad that the Kai marketing craze died and there are no sequels.

It's fun. Really fun. I'm kind of surprised by the amount of filler missions in a Kai game but that makes it more endearing. That there wasn't at least one other sequel is very saddening.

I remain crabby that ChiChi is not a character, but Bubbles and Gregory are.

For a game that ended up with the Kai branding, it sure had a LOT of filler.

But the actual gameplay itself was a lot of fun.

No comment on the background graphics? I thought they were fantastic and really set the game apart from other DB games. They were handpainted by the same guy who did the background art for Chrono Cross and Baten Kaitos.

It stretched the story out a lot, but it was a really fun little RPG. I especially like that they started out at the 23rd Budokai/Piccolor Jr. arc... Hardly any games have covered later DragonBall-era.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

When it was released, I played the crap out of it when it was released. I think I maxed every character.

I had played it when it came out and enjoyed it....but finally played it start to finish this summer and loved it. Knowing that there's no sequel makes me sad. BUT, as much as I liked it, the choice for the secret boss was retarded. Might as well have been Yi Xing Long, for all the sense it made to have him there. Bardock or Tullece would've been great.
Having a list that you can NEVER complete because you just go back to the last save after the final fight is also dumb.

PS: Anyone know how to open the Tournament Grounds hatch? (And the locked door at God's place, if it's possible)

PS2: Reading "Tenshinhan" in the end credits was a nice touch.
