Does anyone still use DVD Decrypter?

Any general discussion regarding fan-created works of the Dragon Ball franchise, including AMVs, fan-art, fan-fiction, etc.

Does anyone still use DVD Decrypter?

Post by Blastero » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:53 pm

I was wondering if people still used DVD Decrypter, since its been taken off the internet. I don't know if using it for AMVs is considered fair use or not.

I still use it. Mainly because I already have it installed. And it works. And I know how to use it.

It being "taken offline" (insert rofls here) has nothing to do with AMVs, specifically; it has to do with the fact that it breaks the DMCA. Nevermind the fact that the CSS (not style-sheets :P) source code was published in court documents, or anything... hehe.

Is there something further you're getting at? That's a pretty basic question.

Anything that circumvents copy protection is illegal according to the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act)... if you're in the USA, anyway.

That said, you're perfectly fine and legal when you're "ripping" a DVD that doesn't need to have the DeCSS run on it... not that any normal, pressed, commercial DVD doesn't still use the retarded copyright encoding that's been a moot point for years... ^_~

I use DVD Decrypter to rip my DVDs so that I can shrink down my movies to fit on my portable device.

Technically, ripping DVDs is illegal but I really don't think the '4Chan Party Van' is going to bust down your door for making a few AMVs with it.

But imagine AMVs without DVD ripping! Ther'd be none!! I mean, who really rips from a VCR (whatever that is :P) anymore.

Kids, rip DVDs! No, don't rip them to pieces, just rip them! :)

Err... you'd capture from DVD the same way you'd capture from VHS... with a video capture card. Like I did until 2002.
