Region Free DVD Player
I'm not 100% sure that this is site appropriate, but figured it was worth an ask. I'm currently in the market for a region-free DVD player, but I have no idea what I'm looking at when going through user reviews on Amazon. I want one to play US, UK, Australian, and of course Japanese DVD's with a certain movie that's just started shipping to people at the top of my want list (I've already ordered it, I've just put off buying the player). I figured since I need it for a Dragon Ball release and I'm sure some fans here have them for the Dragon Boxes or other imported Dragon Ball DVD's that it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Re: Region Free DVD Player
First you'll want to google the make of your current DVD player and see if you can enter a set of commands in your remote to make it region free. Many DVD players have this and no one knows about it. If that's not the case then your best bet is just to enter 'region free dvd/blu-ray player' into Amazon and check out the user reviews.
If you have a PC, you can always buy AnyDVD which is software that bypasses any region locking that your drive may have. It's very helpful for making backups too as it bypasses copy protection.
I have the PANASONIC DMP-BD87 which is super cheap on eBay right now - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasonic-DMP ... 27d464a764 Oops, it would seem I purchased a pre-unlocked version and out the box this does not come region-free. Either way, my initial point stands, there's many out there labelled clearly

Re: Region Free DVD Player
I use my Xbox 360 as a DVD player, but I do have some old ones I can check tomorrow. I'm aware of various means to watch the DVD's on my computer, but I'm wanting to watch them on my TV.
Re: Region Free DVD Player
DVD players aren't region free out of the box anymore, but the majority have an unlock code to make them so (they usually involve turning on the player with no disk in, then pressing a specific sequence of buttons on your remote). As AjayLikesGaming said, google the name of your current DVD player along with "region free" and see if you find such a code. If there's none to be found, or you just want a new player, find one on Amazon you're interested in, then google its name and "region free" to see if it can be unlocked.
Generally, if a player has no code you can find, it typically just means no one has found one yet. It can take a while for the codes to be discovered, so you don't want to buy the newest players on the market.

Just use VLC Media Player, I think that would work but otherwise I have an IView DVD Player (region free), and as stated above you can use AnyDVD to bypass regions too.

Like, I said, I want to play them on my TV so I think I'll grab an iView since Amazon has them cheap (From Amazon too and not some third-party seller). I guess worst case scenario is I'm out $30 and I have to watch my foreign anime DVD's on my laptop. Hopefully this player gets here before my Battle of Gods does...Famicon3DS wrote:Just use VLC Media Player, I think that would work but otherwise I have an IView DVD Player (region free), and as stated above you can use AnyDVD to bypass regions too.
