Goku respect for Vegeta
Okay for know Vegeta's respect for Goku. Bu something pop up in BoG I found weird. Goku told Birsu that Vegeta's pride is bigger than his own. Which is correct. But Goku later says that He respects Vegeta A LITTLE. What's up with that? Did Goku still have some ass in him left over from Boo Arc?
Re: Goku respect for Vegeta
Could just be the translator writing it that way.

Well yeah, why wouldn't he respect him a little? He's not as strong as he is, but his tenacity gives him something to admire.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

He means Goku said he only respects him a LITTLE bit. Why only a little respect?

Re: Goku respect for Vegeta
Yea in both the spanish subs and the english subs. It said "Vegeta pride is bigger than mine" and Birsu replied saying "He threw away his pride to protect the others". Goku then said. I respect a little.mAcChaos wrote:He means Goku said he only respects him a LITTLE bit. Why only a little respect?
Like I thought I'll never hear Goku say that about Vegeta. That's just a slap to the face to him. Vegeta gloating about how strong is compare to him during his speech and all the times he complained that he'll surpass Kakarot. Only for Goku to say "Meh. I just respect like a little man. I know we're rivals but ya know. Just a little respect"

Re: Goku respect for Vegeta
Maybe he's acting like a sane individual and is still pissed at Vegeta for selling his soul to the devil?

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Well if it is indeed said like this... it is very strange

Well, Vegeta's an asshole, if that has to do with anything.

Maybe he was just acting tough in front of Birsu (Bills?) or something.
Or it is a mistranslation. You know how those fansubs used to be.
By the end of Z Goku definitely had lots of respect for Vegeta, you could tell by the way they acted.

It could also just be the way the line is written, and not meant to really have that much thought put into it. *shrugs*

He could have just said respect him. Not just a little. Hell he could have said I respect him greatly for that. It's Vegeta's pride. Not a swimming contest.Gyt Kaliba wrote:It could also just be the way the line is written, and not meant to really have that much thought put into it. *shrugs*

That's what I meant though. He could have said anything there, it's such a small line and exchange, that it really feels like splitting hairs here. But that's just me maybe.

Yeah, he pretty much forgave Piccolo after the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. At least he wasn't pissed for long at all.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Nah. That's way to out there, even for Goku.RandomGuy96 wrote:Maybe he's acting like a sane individual and is still pissed at Vegeta for selling his soul to the devil?
Re: Goku respect for Vegeta
Yeah, I think it may have been the way the subber translated it all. I think I watched the movie with the same subs as you did, Goken, because the one I watched said the same things. And the one I watched was FILLED with translation errors. Dunno, though. Mine was like "Supreme Kai" and "Bills" and stuff.

No, he is not. He is just righteous, which he is since Boo arc (minus the Majin part of his life).Blade wrote:But hey! In Battle of Gods he's 'pure of heart'.hleV wrote:Well, Vegeta's an asshole, if that has to do with anything.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: Goku respect for Vegeta
It's probably just how the line was wrote, I doubt it was meant to be taken so literal.
Or perhaps it was just the way it was translated, perhaps.
