There's something I like about the higher levels of power starting to corrupt even good guys like Vegetto.

Yup. It's a little but non-Dragon Ball, but it's an interesting concept. Like something out of Tolkien.

Vegetto is still half Vegeta, i.e. the guy who murdered entire civilizations while laughing.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

It sort of turns the whole shonen trope on it's head. "There's always someone out there better than you". What if there isn't? Then what do you do?

Funny that's works for villains to. Just vice versa. Even for Orochimaru

I love it. Vegetto's starting to lose it now that he has nobody to fight.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I still think that good guys being corrupted by power blatantly contradicts to Dragon Ball's core nature. It was just never that cynical. In fact, it's effectively a deconstruction of Dragon Ball. "This is what happens when there are no more obstacles to overcome. And it isn't pretty." But we'll see where it goes. For the record, I think a deconstruction of Dragon Ball would be a fun thing to see. I just don't like it being done in Dragon Ball.

Even if Vegetto becomes an antagonist, the good guys will still obviously win in the end, so I don't think this shonen trope is really contradicted.

It IS true that Vegetto becoming an antagonist would be a cynical plot twist, though.

It doesn't have to be anti shonen. I just think it's fun that Saligar played around with that trope.

It's not even a trope. It's just the Vegeta in him. Meaning he was always like that. We just didn't get a chance to see it.

In this comic anyway.

"Shonen" basically means "stupid sentimental shit" anyway, so it's ok to be anti-shonen.

Nice Robo (from Chrono Trigger) also. Taopaipai is much a better artist in these other art styles.

Is it just me, or did the art see a major spike in quality this page compared to the last few? Senbei! NO! You're married, for Pete's Sake!

Also, Bra seems to have noticed Buu's zipper malfunction, and Goku went back tying his belt like he did before the Android arc.

I hope C-18 wins but I'm pretty sure she wont -_-.
