Kame'sennin question.....
I was watching the DB 10th Anniversary Special today and a random question popped into my mind. Is Kame'sennin immortal or not? I remember him saying that he was immortal, yet he died in the battle against Piccolo-Daimao. Was he lying?

Yeah. Right before he faced off against Piccolo Daimao, he assures Tenshinhan that he's immortal, since he took a special potion. However, when Ten's back is turned, he sprays some sleeping gas on Ten, knocking him out. Roshi then says (to no one in particular) that he's never taken that potion and cooly walks up to Piccolo.
So, yeah, he was lying.

I have a tiny little fan-theory about that. I like to think that Kame-sennin isn't immortal in the sense of invulnerable, but may have taken something or done something (potion... phoenix... "bird of immortality"... whatever) to become eternally young.
You never see Roshi age through the series, and considering he's quite an old man when Goku is a little boy and... isn't dead when Goku's a considerably older man... well, he must have some advantage.

I especially like how in GT's finale, Kuririn mentiones how Roshi and Goku never changed (literally!), while he was the only one of the three who aged.MisterFlashdude wrote:I have a tiny little fan-theory about that. Ah, GT... you sucked as a show, but your finale rocked

I always thought that with his connections (specificly Baba, even though they apparently hate each other), Roshi wouldn't have any trouble coming across a potion that would keep him from dying of age.
Perhaps he did drink some sort of potion, but he knew that with Piccolo Daimaou's power he still didn't have a chance?
I'm sure he must have drank something - you don't just stop aging, no matter how strong you are.
Actually, I just thought of something. The Crane Hermit must have been as old as Roshi, because they were rivals since they were young. So Crane Hermit must have had some sort of potion, too, as well as Tao Pai Pai, because you don't just have a brother who's over a hundred years younger than you.

What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

Did he actually specifically say he never took the elixir in the original Japanese version? My Viz translation has Kame-sen'nin say he "lied about the elixir of immortality", but that's a bit ambiguous... It doesn't seem very clear in exactly what way he lied about the elixir. Maybe he was just lying by saying it would make him immortal to injuries, and the truth was that it only made him immortal to old age. *shrug*

In my local dub, at some point he admits he has drank some elixir and he never gets older than that.
Of course he can be killed, but not from a desease or something. On that point of view, one can say Kame'sennin is immortal
As well as Baba, hey!

Well, if you take into account that Tsuru-Sennin and Tao Pai Pai are also rather old compared to their appearance, then they must have done the same measures as Kame-Sennin. I'm inclined to believe it's just an example of the martial artist being trained so thoroughly that his aging process slows (compare, just as an example off the top of my head, Oro from Street Fighter III).
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Perhaps after roshi's master died using the evil containment wave on piccolo, roshi found that so called elixer, and it simply stopped him from aging further. Don't know where you guys are getting the fire phonix thing, I had always thought that was just filler at the end of dragon ball.
It was never in the manga anywhere.

It was mentioned in the manga, at the start actually. When Kamesennin wants to reward Gokuu, heintends to give him the Phoenix to grant Gokuu immortality. The Phoenix had died however, so Kamesennin gave Kintoun insteadDon't know where you guys are getting the fire phonix thing, I had always thought that was just filler at the end of dragon ball.
