Well I meant when he was about to die vs. Bills during his final attack. Goku's eyes go black and he lets out an eccoing scream as he falls backwards motionless. Suddenly, he gets hit witb blu ki and he's back at it. I was wondering: what happened?

He almost lost consciousness, but then after remembering that his friends were on his side, he transformed into a Super Saiyan God, he entered inside Beers' ki blast and absorbed/nullified/who-knows-what-he-did the attack.

It might not be selling gangbusters, but all those editions at, well let's just average it out to something like $30 USD, that's $1.5 million on domestic home release. Add that to the box office numbers as well, and then there is the eventual international home releases and I don't think they're doing too shabby. But, that's just me. I know I'd be happy with $1.5 million in a week.JulieYBM wrote:Week #1 Sales:

I don't follow DVD sales much, if those numbers are bad that is disheartening.
Three more things from the movie I forgot to mention before that I liked:
-Shu finding ten years worth of ham in the prize room.
-Vegeta narrating to himself in his head, including third person referencing to himself as "Vegeta-sama". I recall how that entertained me in the series proper. X3
-Gokû not knowing how he did it and what he did at the end in ssjg to that attack of Beers.

You know, part of me thinks that we're supposed to have these mixed views on SSJGod... I say this because throughout the entire movie its hyped up and down played at the same.
A couple examples of this is are as follow
Hype ups:
1.Beers' dream.
2.The Prophecy of the Oracle fish.
3.The only way to match Beers in strength.
4.Beers' enthusiasm to fight an SSJGod.
Down Plays:
1.Whis says "It seems overrated" when responding to Beers' enthusiasm of it.
2. Its not a "God" in the literal sense.
3. Goku's (the series protagonist) is dissatisfied with the method to achieve the power.
4.Beers was stronger than the God power anyway.
5. Beers' seemed more impressed with Goku's character rather than the fact that they were able to exchange blows for a bit.
6.The Oracle Fish doesn't even remember having the premonition.
I'm sure theres more but with so many "In- Universe" mixed views I think the viewers are supposed to ask themselves "So is this form cool or Stupid?"

Speaking of the Oracle Fish, I was really expecting it to have a few more scenes, but only got one. I know it wasn't that important of a character, but it was interesting.

I think the figures are quite positive: 50.391 copies in just one single week!

I appreciate the in-universe mixed views, just like with the characters having mixed views on which of the saiyajins are pure-hearted and arguing about it. (Also Gokû face-palming with embarrassment when he's mentioned.)
Ssjg appeals to my enjoyment of cute things and combines it with my favorite db character. I've been having a blast with him. X3
Even if we don't get a sequel, I'm happy we got this.

It is, since Goku has godly ki, and can also sense godly ki.goku the krump dancer wrote:Its not a "God" in the literal sense.

Finally saw it; movie took forever to get to the point, Pilaf should have been cut, it stacked way too many jokes on top of each other and... wow it just took forever to get to the point. Like, I didn't care about Super Sayain God by the time it happened. Son Goku and Friends return worked because you weren't supposed to take it seriously and was 40 miuntes; you can't keep that kind of attitude for 85 minutes and still expect anyone to care about the fight. Beerus and Whis are wonderful, but the former's prestige was so far gone by the end that he couldn't impress. I get that Toriyama wanted to be subvert the usual, and most of his ideas do it wonderfully, but... again, you can't stretch something with "Goku and Friend's Return"'s tone over 85 minutes. Disappoint.
Ironically, Super Sayain God itself wasn't much of a problem for me, namely because I like the idea of the "moral Sayain", how Piccolo and Beerus deliberately point out that it's more than just transferring ki, and how Goku immediately shoots it down as a deus ex Sayain. Fading in and out of it randomly was odd, but that could have been explained away with Goku's not knowing how to maintain it, which is what I suspect happened.
Watching with half the room being mono-dub fans who weren't expecting the movie's tone doesn't help.

Myself and fellow forum member, Dalesy, just recorded a mini-podcast review/discussion about the film over the top of me unboxing the limited edition Blu-Ray.
It literally just went live so there's little discussion going on yet but if you guys are interested in listening to it and bringing that Kanzenshuu flair over there, that's be great.
I go through all the booklets too so you get a good idea of the product.

Well, they could certainly be better. One Piece Film Z and the Madoka Magica movies pulled in as much and more simply through the limited edition Blu-rays. It took combining four different releases to hit fifty thousand units for a movie that couldn't even reach the projected theatrical gross.Chuquita wrote:I appreciate the in-universe mixed views, just like with the characters having mixed views on which of the saiyajins are pure-hearted and arguing about it. Those are also more new and current anime. So they are supposed to pull more in than Dragonball.JulieYBM wrote:Well, they could certainly be better. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
