VIZ 3-in-1 Editions Coming Summer 2013

We can only hope that Viz will come to their senses and release the print editions unedited, uncensored, and re-translated. It really doesent make sense why this is done with just DBZ. Rurouni Kenshin is licensed under VIZ and that came out completely uncensored. Middle fingers, language, and all the violence all kept in. Shonen Jump releases all their content uncensored and some of the stuff in Bleach and Naruto put DBZ to shame in the violence department.

I get they are trying to be "sensitive" for parents and their kids, but you know what? Let the parents do their damn job by being parents. Its not Viz's job to make sure everything is safe for kids. Id parents dont want their kids to read it, its THEIR responsibility as parents to keep their kids from reading it, not letting a company butcher the original work till its "safe". If Viz is that worried, they can just shrink wrap every volume like Dark Horse does with its volumes of Berserk.

It's been a while since I posted here, but I stopped by my local Barnes and Nobles bookstore and looked at some of the pages. (I memorized some of the pages that had censored art from my DB Viz Big volume 2.) The volume is uncensored, apart from the usual African American lips being filled or erased.

Close to the end when Bulma tosses her Dad's capsule case, the nudity on the magazines are unedited. However, there is a rather humorous note at the bottom of the page that is left by Viz. The note said something close to, "*I didn't really mean to draw this". I always wondered how they would be able to avoid past mistakes with the female nudity, and that's one way.

It looks like Viz is keeping to their promise for this release being uncensored. The bookstore had volume 1 too, and it's still the censored 1st print edition. I won't buy the first volume until the reprint arrives, but I'm going to buy volume 2.

When my volume arrives, I'll post some pictures.

Though I have no interest in this new line myself, I do want it to be as uncut as possible so that those interested can pick it up and enjoy.

So yeah, that note was not added by Viz, that was always there.

Not sure if this is the place for it, but while this release obviously isn't getting better, some of the out-of-print VizBigs have started
cropping up on eBay and Amazon!

Grabbing all the ones I missed out on whilst I can!

Not sure how much it'd be in Dollars/Euro's etc. but I was able to pick up VizBigs 4 and 5 for less than 15 pound!
A lot less than the 50-70 pounds I was seeing for EACH only a few weeks ago...

Really??? I'm importing them via company service, that imports english books from US and I got all of mine for 13 pounds/18 dollars for each, so I bought 3 of them every month with standard in-state shipping being 4 dollars.
The binding is really shit altough on higher quality paper, so I think that price is adequate.

I decided to buy volume 2 at my Barnes and Nobles store. Remember lips on characters that resemble African American are still edited in some panels, but there are a few panels where it's uncensored too. As promised, here's the panel that was censored in previous editions of the manga and is now uncensored.



When this panel was edited, the letters over the magazines were changed, and the message Toriyama left was changed to something like, "Hello there!". The paper quality isn't as bad as some people have stated. I can see some of the previous pages through the other side, but it doesn't ruin the reading experience for me. I'm pleased with this release and looking forward to the next volume.

I assume the physical copies will be the same as the digital version in the Weekly US Shonen Jump issues. From the chapters released so far, the art is uncensored except for Mr. Popo's lips. Also, the sound effects are left in Japanese and I'm not sure if those will be edited to English for the physical copies.

But it still retains the old VIZBIG dialogue. Piccolo talking like a knight of King Arthur's court, Ki being written as Chi, use of the H-word (and no, not Hell, you all know what I'm referring to).
