Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
They Seriously need Dragon Ball Z Kai back. I hope it comes back when the Buu Saga finishes recording.
BTW DBZKai , at its prime, scored 750.000 viewers for Nicktoons. Now?

I think CW owns the TV rights to Kai now. I don't think Nick Toons can play reruns of Kai now.

I'm kinda happy to hear this, though. It strongly suggests that there's at the very least a desire for DBZ Kai and--possibly by extension--a desire for more anime on TV, period. There's no anime on TV nowadays...and I am very eager to see that change.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

Kai wouldn't be pulling 750k viewers anymore without new episodes.
The Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! shows airing on Nick aren't exactly breaking records with their viewership.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I'm kinda happy to hear this, though. Maybe Nicktoons will air the Buu saga whenever it comes out...

I was counting on that. I'd be surprised if it was otherwise. If that happened, it would be a most interesting situation, because it would mark one of the first times where a dub of a show has been available in an official capacity before the original Japanese performances.CaBrPi wrote:Maybe Nicktoons will air the Buu saga whenever it comes out...

While I hope it does return to NickToons when the Buu Saga gets dubbed, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up airing on Toonami since FUNimation has so much of it's anime on it already. Best case scenario, it airs edited on NickToons and uncut on Toonami.

Nope, again Nicktoons has the cablerights, and cw has the broadcast rights. Toonami is not part of the equation even though it belongs there!Fennekin wrote:While I hope it does return to NickToons when the Buu Saga gets dubbed, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up airing on Toonami since FUNimation has so much of it's anime on it already. But there's still a chance the cable rights will expire and FUNimation will re-license it to Toonami.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Nope, again Nicktoons has the cablerights, and cw has the broadcast rights. Except that apparently they did offer it to Cartoon Network first and they turned it down. Here's hoping they've learned their lesson.Fennekin wrote:But there's still a chance the cable rights will expire and FUNimation will re-license it to Toonami.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Nope, again Nicktoons has the cablerights, and cw has the broadcast rights. Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
That was 2 years before toonmai, toonami/adult-swim is pretty much the last station to air anime and with the exceptions of nicktoons(have been having a blast from the past with Digimon for some reason) that's it.. Unless you get specialty channels which I regress I do not.
Now if CW can be taken out the picture I'm for it.

Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
I wonder how long CW and Nicktoons own the rights to Dragon Ball? I'm pretty sure Toonami is going to try to pick up the rights to Kai when the rights are back to FUNI. DBZ is one of Toonami's biggest request next to Fairy Tale and Attack on Titan.

Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
I think they will have them for a loooooooooooooooong time. Disney STILL owns Naruto Shippuden's cable rights despite not airing it for YEARS.
Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
Depends if they're willing to sell or not. Also if they choose to renew. Remember how long Vidmark kept renewing their 13 episodes of DB and the movie? It was ridiculous.
RIDER KIIIIIIICK!
Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
There should be a clause with these broadcast agreements where the rights automatically end with a network if the show in question isn't aired in a certain period of time.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I think they will have them for a loooooooooooooooong time. Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
Just wondering (Because I know nothing about TV rights) But why is it so difficult for Toonami to gain broadcast rights as well?
Is it possible to watch DBZ with epilepsy?
Re: Nicktoons Ratings Are Taking a Dive without DBZKai
In a nutshell, Nicktoons bought the rights for Kai to air on a cable-based network. This means that unless the contract for Nicktoons passes without renewal or they cease the rights themselves, no other network on cable can air Kai because Nicktoons already has those specific rights. Since Toonami is part of a cable-based network as well, they fall under the same rules.Saiyatonian wrote:Just wondering (Because I know nothing about TV rights) But why is it so difficult for Toonami to gain broadcast rights as well?
At least that's how I understand the situation.
