The specs are definitely incomplete as it fails to include the Japanese language and English subtitles.Format: Animated, Blu-ray, NTSC
Language: English
Region: Region A/1 (Read more about DVD/Blu-ray formats.)
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Number of discs: 4
Rated: Unrated
Studio: Funimation Prod
DVD Release Date: December 31, 2013
Run Time: 925 minutes
For what it's worth, though, I wouldn't take the Amazon claim of 1.33:1 over the 16:9 in the description because the Level blu-ray sets explicitly stated 4:3 in their description. As previously stated, Amazon has listed incorrect aspect ratios on many different items that it should be taken with a grain of salt unless you know (from reviews or whatever) what the aspect ratio is.

We know. The whole point of that link and the discussion above is that they contradict each other.Daimo-Rukiri wrote: It actually lists 16:9 in the description.

Justed talked to Amazon
Me:In product details, the items says it's 4:3 aspect ratio but the editorial reveiw says 16x9
Amazon:I understand and I have checked that the 16:9 aspect ratio definition ration of the movie.
So I guess amazon messed up and it is in fact 16x9

I have to say this whole debacle reminds me so much of this awesome old joke. Granted, it's never quite as funny when the joke becomes reality...

Seems Walmart is offering it for $25.49. That's the cheapest I've seen...

Going to play devil's advocate here: even though the cropping isn't the best aspect of these Blu-Rays, the fact that you can get nearly 40 episodes for $25 on Blu-Ray really is an excellent deal.
I'm guessing that's what FUNimation is banking on.

Considering how cheap these sets are, I'm not holding onto too much hope that there will be any quality restoration.

Fuck the 16:9 aspect ratio. Why? WHY?
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Crap, with that price this is probably the orange bricks.
Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-Ray (Updated 09
looking at the price i think there going to be like the remasterd movies wich are the exact same on dvd and blu ray and in this case just the oring bricks on a blu ray disc with no diffrences or add ons
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I meant that they are cutting the footage to make the remastering process cheaper - money are the reason why they don't listen to the people.MarcFBR wrote:Which is still the same reason the manga exists, the anime exists, that we got the anime brought to our own countries, and that they've made a new movie.Kojiro Sasaki wrote:(the answer: Money!)
No one involved is doing this as a public service. And the rare times companies have tried, they get bitten on the ass for it.
Manga, anime, new movie - all these are decent products

40 episodes at 25 bucks = no quality restoration.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I only paid $28 at Walmart with the level sets and that was on release day, the best thing to do is wait.theoriginalbilis wrote:Going to play devil's advocate here: even though the cropping isn't the best aspect of these Blu-Rays, the fact that you can get nearly 40 episodes for $25 on Blu-Ray really is an excellent deal.

I pre-ordered on amazon so hope they're alright.
These are released at standard blu-ray prices even with complete seasons (even anime complete seasons I see for $25-30 at amazon and walmart) quality I'm banking is the same as the level set just 16:9.
Technically these are a $3 drop from the level sets even anime with a larger episode count is around the same, now complete series blu-ray releases are more expensive but this is a season. I'm guessing they will release these in the proper episode count for each saga(or if that saga is short) extend through the next saga.
I do not think these are the orange bricks at all.

I'm thinking even if it's not the orange brick footage, it won't look as good as the Level sets.

If nothing else, we'll see just how much work was put into the Level Sets (In the positive, labor of love sort of way, mind you!) by having a less-meticulous Blu-Ray counterpart.KingofWisdom wrote:I'm thinking even if it's not the orange brick footage, it won't look as good as the Level sets.

But no matter what source they're using, or what remastering they've done, it's still cropped into 16:9 and is, therefore, completely worthless. These discs could transmit orgasms into my brain, and I'd still never buy them.

I'm glad I'm a member here...
thank you everyone for keeping me up-to-date with this "new" release... now i know what not to buy
you know, with how FUNImation is treating this and fans alike, I'm surprised people aren't going the illegal route and torrenting these things...
but i wouldnt be surprised if they were... you know, i actually left them an email about all of this junk about discontinuing the Dragon Boxes, and releasing crap version, like this release... and they never got back to me.
this company doesn't care about you, or the product.
they only care about money.
