I'm going to be quick and too the point on this

I'm looking for voice actors and good ones. I'm putting together a cast to English Dub DBZ Battle of Gods. All the information and lines on the project are in the link below if your interested.

If you want to audition just follow the instructions on the site on how to send it to me and instead of using your VAA username tell me your Youtube name or Your actual name if you like thats fine up too you. but just check it out this is going to be fun as I'm only getting what i feel are the best non professional VAs out there for each character.

You know, I never particularly cared for Fandub projects of shows that are already being Dubbed that encourage the actors to all sound like the Dub actors. All you're going to get are impersonations that are likely only going to pale in comparison to the actual, official product.

Mm, I have to agree. I don't like to stifle people's fun and creativity but mimicry and impressions with these kinda things never goes over particularly well.

Would be far more interesting to see what unique work actors could come up with to fit the character descriptions.

True i do exactly understand what you guys are saying, I've heard some pretty bad fan dubs myself

And yes i know mimicry can get a tad hard to do and it comes out sounding stupid but i must say its best to give me the future cast a chance I've heard some pretty impressive auditions, some of which don't just sound like they're reading off the paper with no emotion just so they can sound like the character. I gave them the voices and they can put any twist on it they want as long as it sounds good and they can act.

I think even some of the strict critics will respect our attempt

In terms of "can those Japanese characters be represented in English like that," then no, it's not technically wrong. Just like "Kuririn" can also be romanized as "Krillin." But in terms of the intended pun/theme of the name, it is wrong. It was a pun on "virus" which became a pun on "beer" instead. So it should be written and said as Birus/Beerus/Beers; most preferably "Beers."

That said, "Bills" misses the point, and just... irks me. I'm big on preserving them puns.

Yeah, the original name for the character as he was envisioned by Yusuke Watanabe was a pun on "virus," since the character was originally going to be the guy who planted evil in the hearts of the Saiyans eons ago or something. But when Toriyama went in and reworked the character, he also mistakenly thought it was a "beer" pun instead, and even created Whis (from "whiskey") to go pair up with him. Apparently Toei decided to roll with Toriyama's take on the name, and printed it as "BEERS," in English, for the movie's theatrical program (which is the image I posted above). Lemme dig up the interviews or whatever...

Well, sometimes what's comfortable is also what's incorrect, and people need to get out of their comfort zones with. If people complain, then tell them the name is wrong and to get over it. It's a faulty name for him, and the more I and others with some common sense and reading comprehension skills do to spread the reasons why, the fewer people will end up using it.

I hope FUNimation is smart enough not to use it, and goes with Beers or Beerus instead. The only thing that spreads faster than a fan-name is a dub-name.

You got a Point though Kaboom They here it actually said in a Dub and they might just switch there whole perspective around, especially because when i realize the final project on Youtube and what not, It going to get millions of views obviously so hopefully people will hop on the train i will take what you said into consideration and relay it to my Voice actors see how it sounds in the dubbed.

Not quite, it would have an identical pronunciation to Beerus. The only difference between the two names is that Birus emphasizes the original virus pun, while Beerus/Beers would emphasize Toriyama's alcohol pun.

Somewhat, Beerus is just a stylized romanization to bring out the Beer and virus puns. But, Beers is the name that appeared on some Japanese BoG stuff. Bills seems to have come from this 3DS skin:

Which then got spread via YouTube videos/Dragon Ball Wikia, at least that's what the case appears to be. You could sort-of get it from the Katakana, but I'll explain it.

ビルス = Birusu literally.

ビ = Bi/Bee (bee isn't a literal romanization for the katakana despite making the same sound, this is just to explain the name.)
ル= ru/r/l
ス = su/s

So, all of the potential romanizations are: Beerus, Beers, Birus, Bils, Beels, Birusu, etc. I'm assuming that name came from a modified Bils since the one l on its own would look awkward.
But, based on the pun. Beerus, Beers or Birus are all good bets. Just personal preference really. Also the same reason Bills bothers the likes of Kaboom and I. Yeah, you could get it from the Katakana sort of, but it loses the pun entirely.

It makes perfect sense now, I did always wonder why it was Bills and Whis when the Whis was obviously Whiskey..but i just let it go lol, but now that the pun comes into vision to me, ill make the changes and let The VAs know to say Beers instead, besides its a very minor pronunciation but a whole different of a word and meaning. As fast as the Bills thing spread hopefully when the people watch the dub, it will spread the Beers name better, It really shouldn't even matter which one we use since they're many versions of what could be roman.

If they are true to the heart DBZ fans, they shouldn't diss the english Dub off of Akira's actual Pun.
