As I'm kinda unsatisfied with all the news around Battle of Z, I'm curious which name they will choose for him.

I call him Birusu, the direct romanization of his Japanese name, ビルス。

If anything, then Birus or Beerus for me because I like the virus connotation.

As long as it's not Bills, I'm fine with almost anything else.

If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? But in the Japanese Language, in most cases they drop their U in they're words basically making it silent is what i have heard and read upon
So wouldnt that make Birus, Birusu and Beerus still be pronounced as Beers in English?

In the case of Beerus/Birus, it's also keeping the rus part of it. But, it depends. Usually with ru the 'u' stays (but not always, that's the tricky part with romanizations/transliterations). But for something like su the 'u' does tend to get dropped in pronunciation. But, it's all case by case. In this case keeping the 'u' even in pronunciation makes sense.AlphaLhyan wrote:But in the Japanese Language, in most cases they drop their U in they're words basically making it silent is what i have heard and read upon

It's mainly a question of, do you wanna focus only on the Beer pun or incorporate the Virus pun as well? Beerus works best for both, Birus if you wanna emphasize the Virus pun and Beers if you just wanna focus on the Beer pun only.
Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
It's Beers for me, to keep the pun source consistent with Whis. I guess Beerus is a good alternative to keep both puns but the virus aspect of his character has been thrown out completely, it seems.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I dont know...its weird Beerus and Birus just dont sond good off the tongue, i mean bills and Beers are smooth sounding one, its just my opinion but no matter how many times i say Beerus or Birus i cant get any satisfaction out it, it looks good on paper but not in words.SSJ4 Furanki wrote:In the case of Beerus/Birus, it's also keeping the rus part of it. Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Beerus/Birus sounds fine to me, but if it is solely between Beers and Bills. Beers for sure.
Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Beerus only works in English. In spanish, the sound of "ee" is the same as "i" (and we just write it like "i") , like japanese, so I think the better option is Birus.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
I prefer Beers. True, it ignores the "virus"-pun, but then again that is wholly irrelevant in the final movie either way, so I see no need to pay any heed to it. Though I do certainly understand where everyone calling him Beerus are coming from as well...
The Bills-spelling can go die in a fire though.

Beers, Bills, Birus, Beerus.. Of all these I hope they use Birus it just seems like the better name of the four.MCDaveG wrote:As I'm kinda unsatisfied with all the news around Battle of Z, I'm curious which name they will choose for him.
That's what I'll use to call him from now on, if I ever need to.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Yeah, I'm fine with any spelling as long as it's not "Bills". I've been going with Birus a lot lately, since that's what Madman went with, but I usually go with Beerus.
What I'd like to know is how "Bills" became the most widely used spelling in the English-speaking fandom. I've seen all sorts of spelling for Whis also, but luckily none of them seem to have stuck.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
I think "Bills" was temporarily the official Kanzenshuu spelling for a short while until the name's origin was revealed, and I know people were copy-pasting stuff from the main page onto other sites (without citing the source) and that's how I think "Bills" ended up spreading throughout areas of the fandom that don't visit Kanzenshuu, but may hang out at YouTube or other places.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Yeah, I'm fine with any spelling as long as it's not "Bills". Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
It's obviously "Belarus", to fit Burma's name pun.
Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Count me as one more vote for "Beerus." Preserves both puns and simply sounds better than either Beers or Bills.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
I like beer. So I like Beers.
Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Birus because there's no long i in the name, unlike the english word Beer (Beer in katakana is 'biiru'; the guy's name in katakana is 'birusu').
And people use Bills mostly because that's what the Dragon Ball Wikia uses for whatever inane reason.
