Spelling the name Birus might make people pronounce it like virus too, which is wrong. What ever though, American fans of the Japanese version pronounce Mr. Satan as Mr. Satan, which is CRAZY.
Beerus could have a short I sound, just so long as no one's saying Beer like the Australians from the Simpsons.

Eh, I wouldn't go as far as saying "Birus" is just as wrong as "Bills". It's still what Yusuke Watanabe had in mind when he named the character. "Bills" pretty much comes out of no where.AlphaLhyan wrote:But Birus dont make any sense anymore because the whole Virus explanation was thrown out the window the lizard concept so going with that one wold be just as wrong as Bills in my opinionPuto wrote:Birus because there's no long i in the name, unlike the english word Beer (Beer in katakana is 'biiru'; the guy's name in katakana is 'birusu').

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
so Beers isnt pronounced Beers---like the plural of beer? which still sounds funny and in a sense its a different word entirely but still would slightly sound like bills when said aloud if you don't really listen to the pronunciation thoroughly if you guys know what i mean..i dont know if i explained that good at all lolThe Time Traveller wrote:Spelling the name Birus might make people pronounce it like virus too, which is wrong. How, I wonder...DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:What I'd like to know is how "Bills" became the most widely used spelling in the English-speaking fandom. I've seen all sorts of spelling for Whis also, but luckily none of them seem to have stuck.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

"BILLS" was used on official merchandise for the movie. If you're willing to dig through that monster BoG thread, there's at least half a page about it.

There's a poster, that you can find on Kanzenshuu's Facebook page, of Gogeta with that name spelled as "Gozita". Should we defend that as well? (Or we can also start digging for poor romanizations on official merch, that's cool too)B wrote:"BILLS" was used on official merchandise for the movie. Except the point was DB Wiki didn't pull it out of their ass; they(apparently) got it from Japan who pulled it out of Japan's ass. I didn't know DB Wiki used "BILLS" because who the fuck would go to DB Wiki more than once if they've been to Kanzenshuu?Rukura wrote:There's a poster, that you can find on Kanzenshuu's Facebook page, of Gogeta with that name spelled as "Gozita". Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Beers. I'm a snob, so I dislike seeing the name written as "Bills". The risk of seeing it written that way is one of the reasons I don't want to check out fan-written English subtitles for the movie. It bothers me enough that I think Kanzenshuu's summary of the movie can hold me over until FUNimation's release. "Beerus" is my favorite spelling, though.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
So the DB Wiki has Bill's english actor as Jason Douglas, who did King Cold in DBZ Kai. Anyone care and/or able to confirm because I thought it was Troy Baker going off what I heard in the Battle of Z trailer.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
The trailer isn't enough for me to make a guess, but Jason Douglas sounds about right. Doesn't sound like Troy Baker to me.

Bills - Sounds basic. Fits the whole don;t judge a book by it cover thing but just sounds o basic.
Birsu - Sounds badass
Beers - Sounds weird.
Beerus - Sounds like a legit addition.
I don't know why. But I can't calling Beerus/Birsu..... Birshu

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Bills sounds like crap, just makes me think of the name "Bill" and doesn't fit either pun. Beers is better, but I like Birus, pronounced like Beerus. It fits both puns.
Whis is also by far my preferred spelling over Uisu, Wiss, etc.

Re: Bills or Beers? Which one sounds better?
Here's the thing. In an ideal world, where every Dragon Ball fan likes to dig into the original version and know where the names come from and how they should be pronounced, "Berus" would probably be the perfect spelling. You lose the extended "i" from "beer", so you drop an "e", you keep the "virus" part of it, awesome. The problem is that nobody new to the name would pronounce it correctly as "Beerus".
Beerus is needed to keep both puns integrated. I like "Bills" about as much as I like paying them - I don't.

But thats the thing.....I'm trying to figure out what actually sounds better off the tongue, Beerus, Birus, they look good spelled out
But what about when being said, (Bee-rus) (Bi--rus) they sound weird being said aloud in English

Bills makes me think the name has to do with payments you get at the end of the month.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
