Dude, c'mon.

I love Nozawa as much as the next person but he's allowed his opinion. Her voice doesn't sit right with him on a purely superficial level and that's fine. Not sure he's implying it doesn't fit the character or that he hates children.

EDIT: Well then.

Apparently, not liking a specific voice means you hate children.

I sent my friend a clip saying 'Ah, I love that this nice little Japanese lady voices Goku' and he replied saying 'Oh wow, I didn't expect for it to actually sound so feminine'. I think it's that initial shock factor that puts people off - this is especially true if you've grown up on the very masculine and heroic voices that Goku seems to get in every dub.
Exactly, right. This is what I was talking about earlier when I said it's important when talking about "Goku's voice" to specify whether we mean the voice itself, or the attitude and delivery.

For example, using the English dubs as a reference, the highest-pitched voice there has ever been for Goku is Peter Kelamis. I would use his voice as an example of a voice that sounds like a male voice, but not a "macho" male voice. Just because a voice is male doesn't automatically make it macho. So I don't think all the people who insist on having an adult male voice for Goku are insisting that because they want Goku to sound "macho" or "badass," they just want him to sound...like a male. A very excited and childish male, but a male.

Nozawa is an excellent actress, and her delivery and acting are spot-on, I LOVE her Goku. Admittedly, though, just int terms of the voice itself, I don't know how anyone could think it's a man providing Goku's voice because the voice sounds very much like one of a woman.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

I don't think Gokû's voice sounds too feminine. It's more of a gender neutral kind of voice. I think it's more noticeable when he's talking to Kuririn (Mayumi Tanaka is a bit deeper sounding than Masako Nozawa imo.) but I can say compared to female anime characters, not including grammar, there is a distinct difference. Gokû's voice is higher pitched, sure, but it lacks the saccharine many female anime characters have.

Nope. Sounds just about rihgt. Don't really mind it. Makes me able to tell Goku's the main character also makes him more badass.

Nozawa's Goku perhaps is a little TOO quirky for my tastes, and I definitely had to weather the surprise factor when I first heard it, but I don't mind it so much that it becomes unenjoyable.

Even liking Nozawa and enjoying her performance for the most part...she can hit the shrill end pretty hard at times, especially when screaming. Some moments I wonder if glass will start shattering from the sound...But hey, she did the best she could with her own voice to give Goku a believable adult male voice, and I respect that. Doesn't fully fit the frame though. When Goku bulks up, it reminds me of Mike Tyson, lol.

For me, I can handle regular dialogue, it's when the screaming comes in it's a little "grating". Wouldn't call it feminine either, just not the voice most would expect to come from a muscular adult male... like Tiki Barber the NFL player, he has a bitch voice.

With that accent, informal speech, and slang? Even the pitch sounds nothing like any Japanese woman I've ever heard or met. If I were to ever hear a real person talking like Goku, especially a woman, I'd look around for cameras to see if I was on some Japanese prank TV show.

I don't think it's feminine. If anything, like others have said, it sounds more childlike. But even that's kind of not fully true. The voice is weird all around.

And I can see how it can be grating at times. But coming from someone who used to despise it and has come to be able to tolerate it without much issue, the complaint's really blown out of proportion.

I used to argue that Nozawa's voice didn't fit the character, and that's why the voice is bad. The voice doesn't, but it's not that ridiculous, and Dragon Ball is a silly kid's show, so it doesn't matter. Is the voice annoying? I don't think it's that annoying, but I haven't watched DBZ for long stretches of time in ages, and so if I had, it might get on my nerves, but I don't know. I prefer the English voices (specifically Kelamis and Schemmel, for different reasons), but this isn't the thread to get into that.

It sounds weird, not feminine. Basically, it doesn't sound like a real voice that a normal person would have, be it man, woman, or kid. I like it, but I can definitely see why others don't like it.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I've never heard a human with such a voice personally.

You know, I see a lot of people say this. This isn't true, she gives kid Goku a child's voice and adult Goku a deeper voice. It's not the same tone through the whole series. The same voice, yes, but totally different tones. Check out this comparison, it's so much easier to hear the difference when you hear it like this...

I would say that the speaking voice might be a bit to feminine but it doesn't really bother me and does seem to fit pretty good. However sometimes the screaming can be a bit annoying and the little sound effects she makes seem weird at times.
