But in all fairness, you should be buying this for the episodes themselves, not for the promos and trailers advertising the show. Plus, they're all on YouTube if you really want to watch them, so why jam them into already packed discs?KingofWisdom wrote:Well, Toonami promos aren't just any commercials. They hype you the hell up to watch the show. Nowadays, they're probably the only advertisements worth sitting through.

I got confused to lol. I had to look back to see what happened.Kendamu wrote:Oops. Wrong thread...?
Anyway, it's interesting how the level sets had trunks and what not in the trailer, if they stick with using level footage, I hope the later non-level looks as good as those clips. I don't want the quality fluzations the season set had. But, I'm assuming we wont.

Any kind of promotional material serves as a time capsule. It shows how something was marketed to its original intended audience. It's why most studios include the original theatrical trailer when they release a movie on DVD. They're nostalgic at best and fascinating at worst. Why let YouTube pick up the slack? Anything that's worth watching deserves some sort of official release. It's good that FUNi tried to get those old promos.Fennekin wrote:Seriously, why are so many people complaining the DVD doesn't have COMMERCIALS on it, of all stupid things? I don't think you'll find a single person arguing that the episodes themselves aren't the most important things on these sets. By why protest the inclusion of bonus material, especially when Dragon Ball rarely gets any? Whether I buy them or not, I hope these upcoming blu-rays have some supplements.

So, going back to the ending portion of the original Blu-ray remastering featurette, does this mean that all that stuff was remastered before FUNimation decided to put DBZ on hiatus and then come back later with 16:9? If so, I can't believe that "Season 2" of FUNi's remasters could look that good!

Season 2 looked bad because of the automated contrast during the remastering process. Since these were redone, they don't have that issue.Kendamu wrote:If so, I can't believe that "Season 2" of FUNi's remasters could look that good!
Also, I recall pointing it out before, but that Raditz vs. Goku bit is from the Dragon Box.

Whoa - what?Metalwario64 wrote:Also, I recall pointing it out before, but that Raditz vs. Goku bit is from the Dragon Box.I remember comparing it and it was an exact match.
Post a link to that - I want to see this piece (assuming the post has evidence). That would be typical though. Claiming one thing and showing another. It's like when FUNI showed off the opening credits for the level release - but they were pulled from one of the movies since it was 32mm and not 16mm.

Stood right out at me when I saw the trailer, because the colors were so different to everything else.

My guess is that they transferred and remastered some random scenes for the trailer.

To be fair... do we have a shot from the level sets? Sometimes the DBox colors are off slightly, but not always - sometimes they are excellent.Metalwario64 wrote:Here are the shots I took:

No, but the level set and DBOX colors never look that close.
Here's another shot I have comparisons of from just a few seconds before in the same episode, with the Blu-ray shot taken from the trailer:

That screenshot you posted from the you tube trailer is compressed heres a untouched screen shot of the remastering featurette from the actual blu rayect5150 wrote:To be fair... do we have a shot from the level sets? Here's the level sets shot. Them using the dragon boxes for that scene in the trailer would make absolutely no sense it's just been compressed to hell by youtube.

So is there a trailer out or is this just the Levels set trailer? I can't see things on Funi's youtube channel because they block the UK.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-Ray (Updated 09
There's no way compression would do that to the colors, especially make them identical to the Dragon Boxes. I guess the original YouTube upload mistakenly used the DBOX footage for that shot then?qjz123 wrote:That screenshot you posted from the you tube trailer is compressed heres a untouched screen shot of the remastering featurette from the actual blu ray
Also, the countdown seems to be missing from your trailer image, so did they remove that from the end of the trailer on the Blu-ray set?

I got the screen shot from the remastering featurette on the blu ray it didn't have a count down.Metalwario64 wrote:There's no way compression would do that to the colors, especially make them identical to the Dragon Boxes. The one in the trailer is most definitely the Dragon Box. The colors match it perfectly. There was another Dragon Box clip that slipped in there, too: when Vegeta's looking at the spirit bomb and the two exclamation points pop up. The colors on the DBox are very distinct.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Never caught that one.jjgp1112 wrote:The one in the trailer is most definitely the Dragon Box. The colors match it perfectly. Then it seems the YouTube version has the Dragon Box clip, and it was corrected for the Blu-ray featurette.qjz123 wrote:I got the screen shot from the remastering featurette on the blu ray it didn't have a count down.

I don't know, the YouTube screen cap looks pretty orange. But the Blu-Ray is more yellow-orange.
