Naho Ooishi's original doujinshi scans

Post by Unicorn_Bazooka » Thu Oct 03, 2013 10:33 am

Naho Oiishi was known with the pen name Power Level 69 back then when she was making many unofficial Dragon Ball doujinshis. Later she was hired to do official stuff like Dragon Ball SD and so on.

There are very little scans of her original work, which i want to see somewhere without buying the books themselves. I guess this is a pretty hopeless request, because viewing every scan in a manga book is illegal unless you pay real money (I guess...) but this is my situation: I'm too young to own a credit card, and i'm keeping my fandom a secret from everybody, so i can't ask anyone to buy it for me.
I guess i'll just wait a little until i'm 18, or just do something stupid to read them before that.

But if anyone has some scans, i'd be happy to see those!

(I'll be facepalming the next day after i make this thread, this is kind of risky I think.)

Aren't doujinshis fan made? If so, I would imagine there would be no problem requesting scans here, as it's not official material.

Really?
I thought that if they're stuff that costs real money, it would be illegal to read them for free.
Doujinshis are pretty much like official mangas, they just aren't completely original and give credit to the series' original creator.

Are they sold legally? I never really had any interest in doujinshi at all, so I don't know. In the United States, there is no way you could get away with selling comics on your own about Spider-Man, for example, without being sued by Marvel.

After some googling, it appears that it's illegal to sell doujinshi based on someone else's work both in the US and Japan, so if they're being sold it's not legal, and there should be no problem posting scans here, as they are equivalent to fan art.

Well, even though Japan produces massive amounts of manga, you can't really get anyone to publish it officially, so doujinshis are usually sold at conventions like Comiket.

We share fan mangas all over the place on here.

They're not officially licensed so they're technically illegal if you go by most Western laws. It seems quite lax in Japan with regards to fan mangas so they can get away with selling them with little problems.

I'd be interested in these scans too.

I did see some low quality scans someday, but i couldn't read the japanese. They seem to follow the actual storyline of the series, with some comedy between scenes.

Wasn't she drawing DB hentai?

Considering Toyble, who pretty much kicked off the DB fan series craze, is now the artist of the Heroes manga, id say that doujin are pretty much allowed for the most part in Japan. Its the US where it gets next to impossible.

Yes... I can't stand perverted mangas or yaoi, but i hope there's not much of that in her doujinshis.

Didn't it have yaoi like Goku x Vegeta?

So basically it was the exact same thing she has done with DragonBall SD?

Well, this was unexpected...I knew she was a fan, but I didn't know she did doujinshi for Dragon Ball. I wonder what's inspired mangaka to take on fans to do spin-offs for them. I was also surprised when Masami Kurumada had Shiori Teshirogi do Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas (and for that matter having Megumu Okada do Saint Seiya: Episode G and having Chimaki Kuori do Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō), but Toriyama doing it too really surprised me.

I mean, not surprised me in that this is a perfect solution for the lazy mangaka wanting to get material out without doing a lot of work *looks up*, but I imagined he might just ask some friends in the industry, or get an insane number of volunteers given how pervasive his influence is.

I'm almost scared to see what Ooishi's work on Dragon Ball was after having seen her official work...

^^^
I'm not really sure Toriyama is really involved in those decisions. In fact I'm pretty sure it would be entirely up to Shueisha.

Well, isn't the series creator-owned? I know Kurumada took Saint Seiya to another company since Shueisha wasn't doing anything with it. I mean, he probably has an agreement on reprints and such for money, but I imagine new works using the property must be negotiated before going into action.

I tried looking her stuff up at one point ages ago; I think one of them was called Dragon Ball 69 and several of her works had covers mimicking the kanzenban. There was a bit of Goku x Vegeta, but it wasn't anything to write home about, imo.

Googled. Example:
I'm kind of torn on her art, because I've seen other doujin creators--the group who did the Head Cha La series for example--who I think capture the art style better, but if the cost of going "official" is all of your doujinshi has to be erased from existence..it just seems too high a price, so I guess I'm ok with Ooishi being the spin-off artist because I'm kinda neutral on her art to begin with.
On hiatus.
