GT Episode 55 Flashbacks = Original Audio?

Post by Gonstead » Thu Oct 03, 2013 11:38 pm

There were a lot of flashbacks in that episode, ones which contained only voice and SFX with Tokunaga instead of Kikuchi. Toei would have needed to reuse the film from Z to add those flashbacks in.

With the revelation that Toei still has the original audio masters for GT, would it not seem so crazy that they just might have the original audio for Z?

The flashbacks use new performances, actually. Horikawa Ryou and Nozawa Masako both provided new voice performances. That's the cool thing about the flashbacks and recap portions, they had new deliveries from the actors while the actors were still in their prime.

I would be absolutely shocked if it turned out Toei had the original audio lying around and had just been sitting on it and not using it.

Ahhh crap, that's what I feared.

Oh well, at least I now know for sure.

Having it is one thing, but did they store it properly? My guess is no and also because of the 99.95% chance they threw it out.

Probably.

Toei's strong point has never been audio in general, even in this day and age. All you need to do is a quick comparison between the Japanese and English tracks on the Kai DVD to ascertain very quickly that Funimation's audio has a heck of lot more dynamic range (less compressed) and is of a general higher quality and mixing standard.

Toei remixed the audio of Hokuto no Ken when they released three digest VHSs in the '80s, so I guess they store all the separate audio masters of TV series until they end. However, Toei still do throw them out even today in this digital era. I heard that Toei had said no when they were asked whether they still have the original master of an insert song in one of the old Pretty Cure series for a new soundtrack release this year.

What do you guys think? Maybe this what we consider as a "M&E Tape for export" originally contains also the voices?
