Re: Quality of Discussion on Kanzenshuu Going Downhill?
I think part of the reason why it may seem as though the quality went down is like others have said, over the past few months/year or so some of the topics have been extremely similar if not about basically the same thing with the same people participating in them.
Ex: Topic Title: What didnt you like about GT?
Topic Tile: What would you change about GT?
Another thing is, I think too many people here try to imitate Rocketman in they way they post.. A lot of Rocketman's posts from what I've seen are very blunt, sarcastic, and a bit vulgar at times but because it comes off as natural his posts are funny sometimes as well. Not to mention that he can be very articulate when he wants to be which is a good light to his dark, so his vulgar post don't seem annoying because we know he's one of the more intelligent members on the forum especially when it comes to science.
Now for the people that try to copy him, they only do it because they're thinking "oh! He's getting away with it, so I guess I can too." So they try to imitate the vulgar sarcasm but because they 1. Do it in every post. and 2. aren't being original. They're posts just comes off as annoying, a tad childish and a chore to read.. imo.

That may be a reason, but I think a bigger reason is that a lot of people these days are used to typing messages for places like Twitter and Tumblr, where common sense discussion usually does not abide. Some people come to message boards like these thinking it's similar to places like that when really, it's not.goku the krump dancer wrote:Another thing is, I think too many people here try to imitate Rocketman in they way they post.. Granted, non-sensical posts were around before social media sites were really popular. However, I think with more and more people being on sites like those, people are encouraged to not think as much before replying to or discussing something.
I do agree though that people post blunt, sarcastic, and vulgar posts because certain posters get away with it. It is definitely unoriginal.
Re: Quality of Discussion on Kanzenshuu Going Downhill?
I'm sure the "quality" of the forums will go up. IIRC, there have been discussions like this before, a few years back. There will always be fluctuations in the quality of discussions that go on, and how much we have to talk about here. But, Dragon Ball tends to always go from periods of almost no relevant news...to an explosion of new things going on. I miss a lot of those "First/Second Generation" members, as well (And I'm tickled pink that someone considered me one of them
) but it won't do us any good getting all nostalgic about how good this place was while they were gone. It seems we've pointed out a lot of good things they did in their posts, and bad things that go on in posts now...so all we really need to do is apply that to our posts.

I'm not sure how I managed to rack up 250 or so posts back from March 2011 to April 2012. I can pinpoint that that's exactly when this forum dropped off my usual website rotation. I know I rarely visited the in-universe section. If that makes me impartial, then I can vouch for the fact that at least as early as 2011, the in-universe section has not changed much.
General franchise discussion (what did we used to call it? Meta-something?) seems to have few threads that I can add anything to. And the multiple hundred page threads are a little intimidating to a no-longer-so-active fan. That doesn't mean anything is going downhill, just that the franchise couldn't keep my attention after all the Dragon Boxes came out, and it hasn't been able to bring me back even with the new movie. I'll try to check up on things more often, though.

Do you think that took a lot of energy away from other in-universe type discussions?

I believe so.Innagadadavida wrote:Powerlevel discussions rarely come up. If it's something that is necessary, don't you think it'd keep itself afloat?Kaboom wrote:So we can keep it all in one place.
A usual response when someone asks "How strong do you think X was?" used to be: "Oh, because of the following factors (actually lists factors) between Y and Z, compared to Q's form."
Now, more often recently, someone responds with either a humble "I have him as 28,000,000,000" (citing their own calculated powerlevel) or a straight on "He is 25,184,194,999 TO THE DECIMAL ACCORDING TO MY FOOLPROOF FORMULAH!".
That thread may have contained the power levels to one place. But like any other bucket of sugarwater that should attract insects (to draw themselves there and keep the infection from spreading), the bucket has overflown and the powerlevel infection has spread to other parts of the forum.

Outside the Unofficial Power Levels Thread, I don't see many fan BPs, so where is the problem?

Yeah, there are 3-5 users that do that, but they post this for comparison reasons. It does get a little annoying, but it's not that bad.Rocketman wrote:Really? Given that you've only been here since 2011, you clearly haven't seen the actual detrimental effect power level nonsense had on that subforum. It used to be a place full of interesting debates, intelligent analyses and fun speculation. So, er, what year would you say the "chucklefucks" started flooding in?
The only time I've had a real problem with strength discussions was in the lead-up to BOG. There was nothing more annoying than seeing 5 new pages in the BOG thread, getting excited and thinking that there's some major news, only to find that it was 5 pages worth of comparing Beerus to Vegetto.

True, the thread sucks now. I only just started making a list of my own just for comparison reasons (it helps a lot in the VS Thread, though even that thread sucks now), but I don't like BPs in general.Adamant wrote:Given that you've only been here since 2011, you clearly haven't seen the actual detrimental effect power level nonsense had on that subforum. Not that I have kept track of it, but my hunch says 2011. Mostly because of that there were some new members then that joined back then who immediately started to join discussions using nonsensical equations. By time, their speech evolved into plain numbers.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Rocketman wrote:Also the Gamefaqs ">>>>>>>>>>>>>>" shit used to be banned here. Overusing the signs is one thing, but using one or two > is very helpful shorthand if you actually care about character strengths.Rocketman wrote:Also the Gamefaqs ">>>>>>>>>>>>>>" shit used to be banned here. Then the chucklefucks flooded in and it's all over the goddamn place.
SS2 Goku = SS2 Majin Vegeta > SS2 Gohan (Cell Games) > SS2 Goku (burst, vs. Yakon) > SS2 Vegeta
vs.
Both SS2 Goku and SS2 Majin Vegeta were stated to be completely equal to one another and also stated to be stronger than SS2 Gohan was at the Cell Games. SS2 Goku was also not stated to be stronger than SS2 Gohan from the Cell Games until after he fully transformed into his SS2 state, so we can imply that he wasn't beforehand. And Vegeta told Goku that he knew that he was still stronger than himself when he felt his power against Yakon, so Vegeta must have been weaker still.
Fans have been arguing about this shit for years. Everyone already knows what everyone is talking about when it's in math form. As long as that's not all your post consists of without backing up what you're saying, I don't see the problem. I don't see the really bad "SS Vegetto >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Evil Boo (Gohan absorbed)" on these forums at all.
Edit: It also seems to me that you're either a fan who likes in-universe versus comparisons or you despise them. Live and let live. Different strokes for different folks.
