Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I finally saw the movie yesterday and i enjoyed it.
It was stupid and filled with some bad animation and plot holes but the nostalgia was really nice. I genuinely thought the movie was pretty funny with an interesting antagonist that was quite different from the rest of the DBZ villains. It was great to see the cast back together even with there short comings.
However i thought the plot was very week and stupid, the pacing of the move felt campy and strange. Super saiyan God was very lame and was just added in for plot device with no real development. (kinda felt like it shit on whole super saiyan legend) Some characters acted very out of character (i.e Vegeta). The thing i hated the most was they they acknowledged that Vegeta has a brother, which is completely stupid. (i choose to ignore it) I just hope they dont make episode of bardock canon.
I'd give the movie a 5/10. I enjoyed it a lot but it was a missed opportunity. Hopefully if they decide to go with a sequel, it's thought out much better.

What specifically was wrong with Tarble being acknowledged?

Speaking of that. I found some of the gags in YSGAFR better than BoG. I loved that fusion gag.KentalSSJ6 wrote:He doesent want the Jump Special OVA to be canon?Big Momma wrote:Shinsa wrote:The thing i hated the most was they they acknowledged that Vegeta has a brother, which is completely stupid. It is implied and there is sufficient evidence to support that claim.MDSTSSJ wrote:It's never stated or implied that Gohan can't go SSJ before or after unlocking all of his power.
Old Kaioshin says that after Gohan become Ultimate, he don't need go Super Saiyan. He never says that he can't go Super Saiyan.
I honestly don't want to derail this thread with another 'Gohan and his Mystic state' argument.

Battle of Gods (or "La Batalla de los Dioses" in Spanish) is breaking records in South America and Mexico.
It's playing in the following countries:
- Peru
- Colombia
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
- Chile
- Mexico
- Argentina
- Ecuador
Just to give you an important number, foreign films in Argentina usually don't reach 50,000 tickets sold during their entire run.
Battle of Gods has reached 200,000 tickets sold in only 2 weeks. . Note that this is only ONE of the countries mentioned above. I'm sure TOEI will be very pleased with these numbers. The movie's been a massive success. And I'm sure it will be here in Canada/USA.

I like how they reference the 2008 Jump Special. I always hate how Toei always ignore stuff from the movies and never mentions it in the show. Other Dead Zone, none of the DBZ movies were ever mention or brought up ever again. Maybe Movie 13 is canon to the anime if we go by GT. It seems like Toei never has the movies to be apart of the anime timeline given how they never fit. Also Tarble was pretty cool and was better then most versions of Vegeta's brother in fan fictions that exist for 10+ years.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
So I was watching the film again recently with a friend and well, I gotta be honest about something here; the middle section of this movie has very little replay value. I've seen many people complain about this, and I gotta jump in and agree with that. It's strange, but I think when Goku's not around it gets a little boring and drags a lot. And no, this isn't like a "Grr, I'm a DBZ fan and it should be ALL ACTION, ALL THE TIME", because I really liked the JSAT special but something about the character interactions in BOG didn't exactly sit right with me. I thought some of the humour was a little too forced, and I feel the way the characters played off each other in the JSAT special was a lot more fun and natural, particularly the exchanges between Goku, Vegeta and Bulma. Even when the characters started fighting Beerus, I could feel myself just itching to skip to the final fight.
I really hate to say this, because I'd been anticipating this film so much and I wanted to love it, but I think the middle really lets it down because we see what this movie's capable of at the start and end. The stuff with Goku and Kaio is amazing and it's the stuff I always go back and watch. Simple things like Kaio and Beerus trying to make eye contact was actually something that got more laughs out of me than Vegeta jumping up on stage. And the end, wow! From the scene with Goku and Beerus fighting underground all the way to Beerus choosing not to destroy the Earth- simply amazing. I know Toriyama didn't want any sort of drama, but this definitely felt close to it. I don't think I even need to mention the insert song, but Goku stopping Beerus' attack was really something else and, for whatever reason, their conversation afterwards really left an impression on me- must've been the music and the atmosphere of those shots in space.
I did enjoy the film, I really did. I just hate having to use the fast-forward button on my DVD remote for something other than the "original" DBZ TV series.
I swear, I'll get around to writing a proper review at some point...exams, y'know.

I think that the problem with the middle section of the film wasn't the character interactions as such, but more that it was dragged out a heck of a lot longer than it should have been. The JSAT Special benefited from the pacing that comes with being a shorter feature, which in turn adds to the 'fun' value of quick and rapid character interactions.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:So I was watching the film again recently with a friend and well, I gotta be honest about something here; the middle section of this movie has very little replay value. The whole thing felt like extra episodes so I loved it! It had new fights and just the right amount of build up filler (read as Pilaf and Vegeta vs Beerus).

Oricon's fourth week Japanese home video sales:
[DVD] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods - 2,125 / 22,958
[DVD] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Special Limited Edition - 522 / 17,570
Much like the third week, neither Blu-Ray SKUs charted, but the regular release's DVD sales increased by about 300 units. Conversely, that version jumped up to second place on the DVD charts, after having been tenth the week prior. The Special Limited Edition stayed steady at spot 21. The previous known total for the Blu-Rays has the Special Limited Edition at 20,805 copies sold, while the regular release last charted with 8,483 copies.

Oricon's fifth week Japanese home video sales:
[DVD] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods - 1,284 / 24,242
[BD] Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods - 444 / 10,629
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... tober-7-13
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... tober-7-13
Neither Special Limited Edition SKUs charted this week, indicating sales of under 282 units on DVD, and under 415 units on Blu-Ray. Presumably the "Limited" part of its name is taking effect, and stock is running low. Meanwhile, the regular Blu-Ray release returns to the chart at number 8, with the DVD version slipping to fifth.
Total sales should be at least 73,246 units. As Toei did not share expectations for the film's home video performance it's difficult to provide any additional commentary.
