Because they go to the wrong people. I guarantee you if they did a poll only for the members of Kanzenshuu wed have gotten a Level quality release in 4:3 and nobody would be complaining right now. They are just doing a bluray orange brick with this cause it sold because to a lot of fans it was "OMG! DBZ SEASON SETS! GIMME!" Its just a flawed bluray of a already flawed product we already got years ago.KingofWisdom wrote:It's insulting that they purposely make DBZ look like crap because they think that's what people want.Well, none of the modern anime I watch have extremely thick outlines, coloring that hurts the eyes and watercolor backgrounds.theoriginalbilis wrote:I'm kind of impressed that they managed to make an 80's cartoon look like something that was made this year.

But that worked because it was similar to the lines used in the manga. If anything thats faithfulness to the original product and the show's animation does come off as somewhat unique when compared to other anime today.

That's nowhere near as bad as the outlines of this DBZ Blu-Ray.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Eh, thick black outlines were kinda Attack on Titan's thing this year:

This "Coppelion" show also has the whole thick-outline thing going on, as well as a faded-looking color scheme.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Eh, thick black outlines were kinda Attack on Titan's thing this year:KingofWisdom wrote:It's insulting that they purposely make DBZ look like crap because they think that's what people want.

But it's not hard on the eyes. Just like at that Saibaiman shot.

Is it me, or do the more I look at the Bluray season screenshots, the move overly saturated it looks? I mean that Saibamen looks like someone went crazy with their VLC player tools.

Are people forgetting about the thick, black outlines from movie 12 during the Trunks/Goten scenes?

Best post in this thread by far.VegettoEX wrote:It's a happy little bush. Bob Ross would be pleased.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was getting at earlier. The background details are destroyed even MORE than the orange bricks. It's really ugly.Puto wrote:It doesn't even look like a bush anymore, instead it looks like some weird deformed splooge.
You know, the line art reminds me of vector traces, but the backgrounds remind me of Photoshop's "Smart Blur"... Hmm...:

YAY! I'm a super genius too! I hope FUNi hires me, I could use the paycheck!

Yeah, it's definitely MORE saturated than the already oversaturated season one DVD.Is it me, or do the more I look at the Bluray season screenshots, the move overly saturated it looks?

I want to believe that Level set remasters packaged in season sets and priced like this would sell to casuals just as well as these

Someone post a link to this thread on Funimations Facebook, Twitter, everything. I know it's not gonna do jack sh*t but at least we'll get our point across that this is NOT the direction to go with bluray versions of DBZ.

It's more the coloring than the outlines that make this look like crap. But the outlines are horrendous.

They would, but due to the cost of remastering, they might lose money on it I believe.jeisurii wrote:I want to believe that Level set remasters packaged in season sets and priced like this would sell to casuals just as well as these
But they'd only make money if they'd release their friggin raw film on Blu-ray, with at worst MINOR noise reduction (like the level sets) and that awesome stabilization, which is automated. If these will sell because they're cheap HD DBZEE, then the fans would buy the full screen versions just as well.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-Ray (Updated 10
To be honest, I doubt these new Blu-Rays are going to sell as well as the Orange Bricks did. In 2007, the majority weren't aware of what they were buying, but it's 6 years (nearly 7 years) later, and I think a good percent of the audience knows that no matter how much FUNimation tries to make their product sound good, now the words "widescreen" and "Digital Noise Reduction" make for an automatic turn off. This new release will most definitely not be as successful as the Orange Bricks, but hey, if you're aware with what you're buying and want to buy them anyway, be my guest.

Also, $10 says FUNimation releases DBZ on Blu-Ray again by the time these current Blu-Rays finish .

If they aren't as successful, I honestly believe it's going to be due to FUNi's past marketing with all the "remastered in HD" (Hm... HD Blu-ray for $25 or "HD remastered" DVD for $10) on the season set DVDs, or the casual fans are okay with sticking with the Orange Bricks.Black_Anime_Fan wrote:To be honest, I doubt these new Blu-Rays are going to sell as well as the Orange Bricks did. Also, just thought that FUNi's marketing for this seems to have been ran by George Lucas.
