I wonder if well ever get a GT Kai. I mean, its far shorter than DBZ, I mean even Kai has roughly 30 eps on it. I think it would be cool to get a more accurate dub, script, and translation of the series. Not to mention a Bluray facelift (the Kai treatment, not the recent bluray season treatment).
EDIT - Also, I'm considering buying this for myself.
Before I put the money down I need info. Are these single volumes the same as the content in the Vizbigs? Are they the same as the Kanzenbans, inbetween? I dont wanna drop 200 bucks for some half assed censored and altered product.

Yeah, there's no real significant differences regarding content (there some tiny differences, but hardly significant), but they don't have any color pages printed in color.

What about the translation? Does Piccolo have that Shakespearean dialogue like when he speaks to Raditz? Do they pronounce Satan, Buu, and Vegito as the H word, Boo the Djinn, and ugh..Veggerot? I could have sworn they renamed Piccolo's Makankosappo/Special Beam Cannon to Light of Death as well.

Good luck tracking that thing down. From what I've seen, it's out of print.

Yeah, pretty sure that stuff'll be there. As far as I know, Viz has only ever used one translation for the series across all of their releases.

Then I pass. Nevermind then. Hopefully Viz will pull their heads out of their asses and give the print editions of the Full Color Manga a Kanzenban release with retranslations, and no edited/altered/censored content.

I wouldn't hold my breath.
And honestly, Viz's translation is pretty good. Its not flawless or excellent, but it honestly is pretty good.

For me, I absolutely and utterly
DESPISE any and all censorship in a product. For me, its the original intended product or nothing at all which is why I don't own the manga yet. Call me a purist if the term fits. I have seen Viz's translation in the Vizbigs and it simply does not do it for me because I still know theres content in there thats been changed from the original Japanese release. Back then I could understand but today there is NO excuse why its stilling be messed with when series under Viz such as Ruruouni Kenshin, Naruto, and Bleach are release untouched and have violence that can put DBZ to shame. It just baffles me why Viz does this.
End of rant.

There's no real censorship in the translation. 99,9% of what is implied is present in the translation, and what its not present is absent more due to error in the translation or due to a need to adapt what is being said to English. The closest there is to censorship in the translation is something like Bulma offering a "peek" instead of a "feel" in the early chapters, which doesn't even change the essence of the intention.

It just rubs me the wrong way. Even small changes get me going such as the name changes. I know it sounds ridiculous but even that's enough to keep me from buying it.

At least with the Viz releases, you don't have to rely on those shitty scanlations found online.
Unless you're going to go through the effort to learn Japanese and buy up the original Japanese version, the Viz release is all there is available for an English version and most likely will remain so for a long, long time.

That's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself "What is the true meaning of being perfect?" and the answer I came up with was nothing. Not one thing. The truth of the matter is I despise perfection! If something is truly perfect, that's IT! The bottom line becomes there is no room for imagination! No space for intelligence or ability or improvement! Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect! Scientist's agonize over the attempt to achieve perfection! That's the kind of creatures we are! We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable!"

I actually have a absolutely amazing online version I go to which is more or less a near perfect translation of the original Kanzenban's. Sadly I cant post a link or any more info as that would be endorsing technically illegal versions of the manga. Even with access to that though, I still prefer physical copies to digital so it seems I'm in a lose lose situation till Viz gives the manga its proper release.

I don't know if BoG played any role into this, but there are currently 4 scanlating groups that are doing some very good scanlations of the (Kanzenban) manga.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Its your choice. If you'd like the manga but you are willing to deprive yourself of that on the off-chance that Viz releases a version of the manga with marginally superior translation (it can't be that much better since the one that exists is already pretty good, the only significant improvements are minor details), its your call.
The real advantages of the upcoming colored release are its size and its colors, not the possibility of revised translation and marginally improved translation.

The manga cut of a series that wasn't based on any manga? Technically, but not having anything, we already do have that.

Or a Level Set treatment. Even Kai doesn't look all that great. I'd be okay with just the Dragon Box, it still looks good on an HDTV.

Gift I got from the hubby.

I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

That's the best Ox King figure I've seen! Awesome.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I picked up a copy of Raging Blast 2 with the replacement score? Does that count, since I don''t view it as a new purchase, wanting the old score badly? XP
