Season 3 orange brick question.
How different is this release (dub/ U.s music wise) from the singles?

Re: Season 3 orange brick question.
Aside from the obvious (Cropped, "remastering", etc.), the singles don't contain the eyecatchers and just cut them out entirely (Making the Japanese version kind of off putting when the last second of the eyecatch audio always sneaks in when the second half of the episode starts), and as far as the dub is concerned, Vegeta, Ginyu, Jeice, Burta, Freeza, Dende, Kuririn, and Bulma were completely redubbed in the season sets. Perhaps a few others that I'm forgetting but that's pretty much it. Also, the really, really early single DVDs contain some dubtitles for names (e.g. Frieza instead of Freeza) but for the most part Steve Simmons' translations are fully intact; this was corrected in the season sets and the Dragon Box.
Oh, oh, and I almost forgot, because "Ginyu Assault" in the 1999 dub was essentially one and a half episodes edited into one (Continuing exactly from the original dub's ending in the middle of an episode) the Faulconer music is mixed slightly differently in the Season Set, but only for the first few minutes of just that episode if I remember right. That's probably the question you were asking since you specifically mentioned dub music.

Only Vegeta, Ginyu, Burter, Dende and Kulilin were completely redubbed.Levlik wrote:Vegeta, Ginyu, Jeice, Burta, Freeza, Dende, Kuririn, and Bulma were completely redubbed in the season sets. Perhaps a few others that I'm forgetting but that's pretty much it. Also,
Jeice, only had 2 new lines, Freeza was only redubbed until he transformed for the first time (and his final form was redubbed for 1 episode), Bulma only had one scene redubbed (I think), the rest of her dialog was completely leftover from the previous dub, and Gohan was redubbed for about 5 episodes.
Honestly, I wish it hadn't been redubbed, since the partial redubbing makes it inconsistent, and the original was always so bad it's good, and the dialog still sucks. I was getting the singles, but I stopped halfway, so I prefer watching the dub on the Orange Bricks because at least it's still nostalgic enough.

IIRC, the entire episode was rescored by Nathan Johnson.Levlik wrote:Oh, oh, and I almost forgot, because "Ginyu Assault" in the 1999 dub was essentially one and a half episodes edited into one (Continuing exactly from the original dub's ending in the middle of an episode) the Faulconer music is mixed slightly differently in the Season Set, but only for the first few minutes of just that episode if I remember right.

Re: Season 3 orange brick question.
The episode "Ginyu Assault" (68) itself on the Season Set is Faulconer Productions as it should be, albeit a slightly different mix at parts due to the change in it no longer being a mix of essentially two episodes on the Season Set. The original dub's former portion -- the latter half of episode 67 -- has Nathan Johnson's score on the Season Sets, since it would have been really awkward for scores to switch scores entirely mid-episode, but once the dub's "Season 3" officially starts on the episode count, it switches to Faulconer.kei17 wrote:IIRC, the entire episode was rescored by Nathan Johnson.Levlik wrote:Oh, oh, and I almost forgot, because "Ginyu Assault" in the 1999 dub was essentially one and a half episodes edited into one (Continuing exactly from the original dub's ending in the middle of an episode) the Faulconer music is mixed slightly differently in the Season Set, but only for the first few minutes of just that episode if I remember right.
You're right, I do remember them adding the eyecatches in later, but I'm absolutely positive they were removed from the Ginyu Assault DVD and I would imagine most other early DVDs, too. My singles collection is ridiculously sporadic, though, so somebody could probably shed better light on this than I can.eledoremassis02 wrote:I'm on the singles now and they have the eye catches so far o.oLevlik wrote:the singles don't contain the eyecatchers and just cut them out entirely (Making the Japanese version kind of off putting when the last second of the eyecatch audio always sneaks in when the second half of the episode starts

Re: Season 3 orange brick question.
The eye catchers start on The Trunks single DVD's.
"Ginyu Assault" is impossible to sync with the "Dragon Boxes" I spent a whole weekend in August trying to sync it, but ended up scrapping the episode and instead I synced it to the Season Sets version. But I resumed syncing from the single sets from there on.
Episode recaps start on the Frieza Saga single DVD'S, there is no recaps on the Ginyu DVD singles.

Thats odd. My Freeza: The Summoning has eyecatches but Freeza: Transformation does not (that I am aware of). Perhaps there was a silent re-release of the Frieza saga. I got these singles from various ebayers a year ago.shenron002 wrote:The eye catchers start on The Trunks single DVD's.

Yes there was a second release, you can tell by the disc, 1st gen have a shiny cover thermal print on the dvd and 2nd gen have a dull cover on the dvd.

Yes, Funimation did unannounced and unlabeled rereleases of their earliest singles that brought them up to the standards of their later ones.eledoremassis02 wrote: Perhaps there was a silent re-release of the Freeza saga.

As far as the remastered sets go, I remember hearing, also, that they redubbed/inserted a speech at the end of the Buu saga, as well. I think it was showing Super Saiyan 3 Goku fighting Fat Buu again in a flashback or something...

The eyecatches actually started on the World Tournament discs. The Trunks DVDs were only the second set ever released, and they did not have them originally. When they were later re-released (with the redesigned packaging and the Burger King-exclusive episodes tacked on to the second disc), the eyecatches were added back in.shenron002 wrote:The eye catchers start on The Trunks single DVD's.

It's funny too cause I just got the Android box set and all the DVD's are mate, much like the re-released discs but they do not have the Eyecatched from what I can tell. What could have caused a re-release? I'm thinking it's a re-release cause not only are the cd's matte but the imperfect cell saga discs I have go right back to the shiny covers.Gaffer Tape wrote:The eyecatches actually started on the World Tournament discs.
