Wow, this is quite the exciting news. The chances we'll hear broadcast-quality audio on a domestic DragonBal release keeps getting better little by little... I'm glad to hear Sabat is personally interested in the project; he's always been one to listen to fans.

I wonder if his time working with Horikawa Ryou has given him a personal stake in the idea, too?

This might piss some forum users off... but if the new Blu-Rays end up with this audio on them, I'm so buying them, regardless of the video quality.

In trying to show him the benefits of doing this I did mention that fans would probably end up buying the new discs if they had high quality Japanese audio on them. That may have had a part to play with his saying yes.

Could you possibly mention we would be perfectly fine with the raw masters on Blu-Ray (Albeit with the shake and stabilizer filters applied)?

No. I'm not asking for anything more or increasing the barrier to acceptance until this one objective is accomplished. This is the first time Chris has responded to my emails in over 3 years and we've had an actual conversation. I have to treat this with sensitivity and be grateful for his help.

Perhaps in the future when we have a better rapport I can serve as a more continual voice for the fans.

The ones I have are not the best because they were recorded off of local TV channels that relay Fuji's programs. The best sources would be direct recordings of Fuji TV.

I'm sure there are plenty of Japanese viewers who recorded the original airings. Hell, I still have old VHS recordings of cartoons in my possession.

Yes, kei17, if that is what you meant, then sound the trumpets, raise the banners, and post fliers all around Tokyo, whatever it takes, to let the fans know that Chris wants the tapes. Now is the time, and there may be no other time than now. Do all that you can to gather those tapes into your collection.

Possible, but I think they are trying to fix there audio. This could be great leverage though since it's even better audio than what the Japanese have. I wonder who he's gonna get the OK. for Toei?

Since this thread has started talking about broadcast audio I've decided to revise the thread title again from a discussion about just the Harmony gold dub to a discussion about both The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio, this way the broadcast audio discussion can continue without the risk of going off topic while at the same time retaining the ability for users to continue discussing the Harmony Gold dub as well.

Not gonna lie, the prospect of seeing FUNimation using the original broadcast audio on their Dragon Ball releases is incredibly exciting. With that said, I'd almost be willing to bet it won't be used in this upcoming bastard of a Blu-ray release.

It opens up the possibility of a "perfect" Dragon Box The Blu-rays release from FUNimation later on. Hype mode, engage.

I don't know about that if they let someone that's good with audio work with it they might be able to pull it off, not only that but these sets are probably going to be a few months apart so there would be some time to do what needs to be done with the audio, my main concern is that FUNimation will just digitize the audio and slap it on the Blu-ray without removing any possible impurities from it first (namely clicks and pops and other abnormalities that shouldn't be present) for example if you listen very carefully to Kei's gohan SSJ2 betamax audio clip towards the end of the audio file (around the 3:07-3:09 mark) there's a slight split second gap between the audio causing an abrupt stop and quick restart of the audio it's kinda hard to hear using speakers but with headphones it is noticeable (takarajima and AnimeMaakou will back me up on this) or if you want to hear the abnormality itself just check out this video around the 3:27-3:29 area and you'll hear it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qddtHLJMV5I

Wow Sabat seems like a really cool guy you can tell he actually cares about the show. He seems confident that he can get Funimation to use the original broadcast audio maybe the legal issues with Toei aren't as complicated as we think.

Yes, even though some fans may loathe the English dub, you can't deny that Christopher cares about the Dragon Ball series. He has invested 16 years of his life into it. If there's anyone at FUNimation who will take care of those tapes properly, it's him.
