Not to mention a KILLER first post!
I think this list needs to be brought to everyone's attention. It will be a great aid to finding a new server. It might not be imperative to this group, but I believe that a central chatroom to participate in helps in a big big way. For one, I am ready and wililng to fserve it up, providing new outlets for media distribution.

I've seen the list, and looked it over a lot. Honestly, there's two reasons the chat's not back up somewhere, though:
1) This is crunch time for me, right before spring break;
2) The suggestion that maybe we SHOULDN'T go to a digi-sub network makes a lot of sense, since those are the ones that are always targeted for attacks
But whatever. I'll get around to making a decision soon. Thanks, everyone!

Starting up an actual IRC server is a lot of work, and so is maintaining it. I've known people who've done it, and I could possibly do it myself, since I have a bit of experience running other types of servers. Getting a decent server box up and running and getting enough bandwidth for it would probably cost money, too.
Why go through all that trouble when there are plenty of existing servers to create channels on for free? Such as Espernet.

I agree with you, but apparently it seems they are skeptical about existing servers.TripleRach wrote:Starting up an actual IRC server is a lot of work, and so is maintaining it. I don't see why when so many of them have reinforced themselves so well.
