How long is a Saiyan's life span?
Does the manga (or anime) say anything about a Saiyan's life span? I always thought it was the same life span of a human, but is that true?

Vegeta says something at the very end of the manga about Saiyans staying in their prime longer, but I don't think anything about the average lifespan is mentioned in the manga.

They seem to age slower then humans do and they have stronger bodies. I guess they could live up to over 100 unlike most humans that die around 80 or 90.

Yes, I know that they age slower, but I also heard (I can't remember where) that when they reach a certain age, they age very quickly. That lead me to beileve that they live about as long as humans do.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Vegeta says something at the very end of the manga about Saiyans staying in their prime longer, but I don't think anything about the average lifespan is mentioned in the manga.

Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
Along with a guidebook or two saying so, Toriyama himself has actually told us that Saiyans have roughly the same lifespan as humans. But rather than age steadily, they stay in their primes for much longer and then deteriorate quickly in their very late age.

If we go by GT, Goku is still alive. I'm not sure if him absorbing the Dragon Balls had anything to do with his age or not.

AGE 732
--On Planet Vegeta, King Vegeta’s son is born. Clearly out of ideas, his father names him “Vegeta” as well. Under the hereditary monarchy King Vegeta established, his son accordingly becomes prince of the Saiyans. Prince Vegeta soon shows a considerable talent for fighting, and surpasses his father while still a child.
AGE 737
--Bardock’s second son, Kakarot, is born on Planet Vegeta. Like his father and older brother he is classified as a Low-Level Warrior.
[Ref: Date from Daizenshuu 7, DBZ Son Goku Densetsu, and SEG: Character Volume. In Chapter 2 Goku claims to be 14, but in Chapter 41 he says he is really 12 and had miscounted before. This is therefore 12 years before the series’ start. Chapter 197 reveals his origin, while the Bardock TV Special and Chapter 307 detail his father.]
AGE 801 (#800)
DBO: Son Goku vanishes.
--Knowing his end is near, Goku leaves Earth with Vegeta so that the two can finally settle their score. Several years later, astronomers note the explosion of a supernova. Possibly this was an aftereffect of Son Goku and Vegeta’s battle.

The Saiyans are stated that they live as long as normal humans, they just stay in their childhood & adulthood for very long, until they age from boys/adults to adults/old men rapidly.
Goku died after his fight with Super Yi Xing Long. But it seems that becoming Shenlong's vessel made him something more.Hellspawn28 wrote:If we go by GT, Goku is still alive. I'm not sure if him absorbing the Dragon Balls had anything to do with his age or not.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
As it has already been explained, it's fairly clearly documented that Saiyans have a similar natural life span to humans but remain in their physical prime for much longer. I say natural, as a warrior race like the Saiyans are likely to live shorter lives owing to environmental factors such as their involvement in many battles.
If the Dragonball Online timeline has Goku and Vegeta going off to settle their score whilst aged in their mid-sixties then one must assume that the reason for this is because they were both about to leave their physical peak. The 'not much time left' comment seems unlikely to refer to lifespan due to the fairly low age, but instead the point in which the capabilities of the Saiyan body begin to diminish. It correlates nicely with Goku and Vegeta's personality and their Saiyan instincts that they wouldn't want to fight each other at point in time other than when their abilities were at their best.

Saiyans have the same life span as humans, but let us keep in mind that the human race includes people like Kame Sennin, Tsuru Sennin, Tao Pai Pai, etc. who are more than 300 years old.

As stated above. Toriyama said they live as long as humans but they quickly get wrinkled at a certain age,

I would imagine the average life span is 80 years, with a maximum of 120.

Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
The ages listed here don't reflect their physical ages but instead just from the time that they were born. Vegeta spent 2 years in the RoSaT so he'd physically be 71. And Goku is quite a bit younger, 56, since you don't age when you die. Goku was probably thinking solely of Vegeta's best interests.Super Vegetto wrote:AGE 732

Nitpicking, but he's probably 57. Yeah, he spent around 8 years dead, but he also spent a year in the RoSaT total (a month while a child and just shy of a year with Gohan).Tyro wrote:And Goku is quite a bit younger, 56, since you don't age when you die.
Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
Whoops, you're right. I forgot to factor that in. (Spending a month in the RoSaT is about 2 hours of real time so that would bring his total time to about 23 hours, or 350 days.)TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Nitpicking, but he's probably 57. Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
My guess about Goku's youth ending so soon is because of Super Saiyan 3. It probably shortened his life-spawn.

Would't be shocked. Seeing as SSJ3 puts so much strain on the body it's just a SSJ version of Kaioken. I also think Broly(HAD he not been killed...) would only lived a couple of years before he died. Even though Broly Movie 2 ruins this theory seeing as he lived for 7 years afterwards. I ssay this because LSSJ should shorten Broly's life. I mean his skin is literally ripping off.
Re: How long is a Saiyan's life span?
I remember this being discussed in a podcast concerning the Super Exciting Guide. I know they age in bursts cuz that's been talked about by Toriyama in some of his commnetary specifically whichever book in drew Goku with a musache and white hair. They have the same actual total life span as humans as in number of years they live but stay in their prime longer and age in sporadic chunks.shreddinghead wrote:That makes sense, I've never seen an aging saiyan on planet vegeta, not as far as i remember anyways.Kaboom wrote:Along with a guidebook or two saying so, Toriyama himself has actually told us that Saiyans have roughly the same lifespan as humans.
