I've finally decided to pop in this game and start giving it a playthrough for the first time, after finally picking up a copy about 2 or 3 years ago. I think I put it off for so long since, with all of the PS2 games, there wasn't really much point in messing with this one right away, and I've heard very little good about the game. But since I got it, may as well play it, right?
I messed around with it a bit last night though, and found myself with a few questions that, after checking out GameFAQs and the like...aren't really sure I have answers for.
- How do you unlock the other characters? Is it possible to do without using cheat codes? The codes on the sites I checked out seem of dubious quality, as the codes involve seemingly ridiculous button entries (like hitting X nine times and then O eleven times for example), or list the Gotenks and Pilaf codes that I know are fake (courtesy of a prank by Mike if I recall right).
- Exactly how many playable characters, and what ones, are in this again anyway?
- Are any of the other features listed on these sites, such as a sound mode test or alternate outfits, real either? And if so, how are they triggered?
Again, I hate to ask this kind of stuff for such an old game when there are listings on other sites...but I'm not sure how accurate they are in this particular case.

Here's our April Fools image. The Gotenks and Pilaf additions are the fake ones. We didn't blur Pilaf well enough. Blargh.

You can unlock the characters by doing... whatever it was, I forget... through normal gameplay, but keep in mind that you can't SAVE the fact that you've unlocked them once you turn the game off. Your best bet really is to just use the button-press codes. You'll hear a sound/blip/clink to indicate you did it correctly. Gotta press the buttons pretty fast. You can just do both in a row.
Right, left, down, up, right, left, down, up: gets you Super Goku (Z), Super Goku (GT), Super Trunks (Z), Super Vegetto, Super Goku (Kid), Super Trunks (GT)
Triangle x9, Square x9: gets you SSJ4 Goku
The sound test should be selectable immediately from the main menu on the North American release if I remember correctly. It even says so.
All the other stuff (2P costumes, wireframes, etc.) on the GameFAQs page ring true to my memory.

Re: Final Bout Help
Thanks for the help. Huh, it was the Triangle x9/Square x9 stuff that made me doubt the codes, oddly enough. It just didn't seem like a realistic code from what I remember a lot of PS1 games having.
That sucks that the game won't remember that I've unlocked people after I have. Guess I'll just have to write these codes down in the back of the booklet for use whenever I want to play the game. Thanks again for the help, I'll have to mess around with the game some more tonight then.
