How long is a Saiyan's life span?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Yeah, it's been a kinda complicated puzzle that's been filled in over the years.

The series had told us that they stay younger longer.

Various guides revealed that their overall lifespan is the same as humans, but they effectively remain in their prime until their species' quick deterioration sets in during the later years.

If you accept DBO's information, this process seems to occur around age 70. It probably varies a bit from Saiyan to Saiyan though, and you'd also need to account for possible external factors, like for those fans who think Super Saiyan 3 actually shortens one's lifespan.

Jaco filled us in on the last piece of the puzzle, revealing that Saiyans not only stay in their prime, but they also have a very long childhood. Adding that they use this to their advantage to deceive those around them on the planets they are sent to as the grow up. Afterwards their body will they quickly grow into the a size that is more suited for fighting. One could have gathered this on their own from watching Goku in the series, but it's nice to have it actually stated and proven not to be pattern that was specific to our hero.

That is such a nifty tidbit. I guess that would fit with Goten and Trunks appearing not to age very fast, but does that mean Gohan is an outlier?
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Maybe not so much - as we miss a very large portion of Gohan's development in the time skip between Cell and Buu. He does seem to have a very distinct 'teen' growth phase after his time in the RoSaT, but before then his growth appears to be largely emotional and down to mental maturity.

So with Toriyama's recent revelations about how Saiyan aging works... does that mean 16/17-year-old Gohan from the Majin Boo arc really could be labeled as "Gohan (Adult)?"

There are teenagers that look like adults, and Gohan does look like adult because he is tall and heavy like Goku, give or take.

In real life he wouldn't look anything like adult because of stats he got for weight and height...

Maybe, but I really think Gohan takes after his human side more when it comes to aging. He has some very distinct heights that we never saw Goku go through, and we see them at an earlier age than when his father started having any significant spurts. The Cell Games is the best example, as Gohan is much taller at age 10/11 than Goku was at age 15.

I honestly think Gohan got Ox King's traits more than Goku and ChiChi's traits. While Goten got Goku traits obviously

Id say anywhere from 90 to 120 depending on injuries they sustained through life.

Since they are evolved for battle should injuries hurt their lifespan?

I know they evolve from battle and get stronger after near death experiences (Until SSJ is achieved), but id still think that if for example, Goku broke his spine, it would still effect him in the future. When Goku breaks Nappa's spine he comments he cant fight anymore and even Vegeta agrees before killing Nappa himself.

But not being able to fight should't affect their live span. Unless depresstion from lack of battle. They might be scarred from injuries but knowing saiyans they can overcome it

They have the same life span as humans I believe.

However they stay in their prime longer so they can fight longer....

When Goku and Vegeta should be 40-50, they look little to no different at all apart from more mature....

Pan got old and wrinkled but being only 1/4 Saiyan, she may age more human like and look old by the time she is 60-80....

That makes sense, I've never seen an aging saiyan on planet vegeta, not as far as i remember anyways.
Was Planthor a Saiyan?

EDIT: Never mind. I forgot about the pointy ears. So probably not.
