Just had a computer crap out on me so I'll probably pass on these at-least until things get better around the place. wait until there's a bunch so I can just swoop up 3 or 4 sets at a time...
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I have a question for the upcoming article/podcast, I don't know if it's relevant enough for inclusion but I'm extremely curious.

Why has FUNimation opted to re-release the Orange Bricks in complete sets a month before this new Blu-ray release is supposed to hit? Won't this draw attention away from the new Blu-rays? Feel free to disenfranchise me of this notion, but I believe there to be reasonable precedent for this.
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

My worst fear regarding this upcoming set is that after its run, if Toei decides to do their own proper High Definition remaster of the series, FUNimation may not see it fit or wise to release them after over-saturating the market (much like they have DBZ) and whatnot, making it and the Orange Bricks the de-facto home media releases and having only shitty DBZ products on US shelves...

We've been getting release after release of DBZ since the ultimate uncut sets. I don't see why they'd stop now, unless these new mass market Blu-Rays fail.
"Those transformations insane,
They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

Worst fear? Isn't it an almost certainty? It seems FUNI always wants to have some kind of DBZ release since it "prints money." For all of the bitching, even people here will most likely buy a few of these "just to check it out." Once they finish this run what else can they do? Either one of the following: 1) Release Dragon Ball DBox, 2) Release Dragon Box the Movies, 3) Release GT Dragon Box, 4) Remaster DB Blue Bricks for HD, 5) Remaster GT Green Bricks for HD, 6) Remaster the movies for HD, 7) Do a proper remaster themselves or buy it off of what Toei may have done at that point in the future.

Face it, since cost was an issue with their own remastering process, every single one of the above options is cheaper than doing a proper remaster themselves. I for one would like it if Toei did it and Funi just bought it. That way we'd get proper opening and endings and next episode previews - but I somewhat fear the green sky issues again. Dragon Box and Kai both had green sky in the Vegeta fight when even Toei had shown it was supposed to be blue.

Me? I'm just sticking to editing the colors of my DBoxes since I own them all (except the GT DBox).

If that were the case we'd never have gotten the US Dragon Boxes Z.

Need to hack one of my PS3s to make it free region for BDs/DVDs (Dragon Box is R1 so I'm stuck to a DVD Player that I have laying around).
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Yeah, I guess I forgot to say how far-fetched it would be for FUNimation to just go "Yeah, I think we have enough DBZ out there. Let's just stop milking series for its worth."

Actually, I have to say... After seeing those Level Set shots vs the new Season set shots... the line and detail quality is actually more or less the same. The colors on the other hand, are WAAAYYYYYY too bright, and WWAAAAYYYY to saturated. The one shot with the spacepod speeding by the sun looked better in the level set, the bright colors from the season set loses details in the sun because of those bright ass colors.

Doubt it. It's 2013, people have been upgrading to DVD to Blu-Ray just like how most people went from VHS to DVD back in 2003. Blu-Ray has been around since 2006, time to upgrade people! You can find HD TV's and Blu-Ray players cheap now.

Plus, this is almost the exact same as the OBs, with selective cropping, no disgusting shaking/detail messes, and most obviously, it's HD lol. So the transition for those who actually bought and liked the Orange Bricks will be easy. What I think is that they'll see the Blu-Ray cover, the episode count, and the cheap price and go nuts.

I'd still rather spend that money on stuff I don't have. I don't care that much about picture quality to repurchase every movie and TV series I own every 7 years. The biggest reason I switched from VHS to DVD was because it improved more than just picture and sound quality.
DarkPrince_92 wrote:the line and detail quality is actually more or less the same.
Not really. The backgrounds are completely smudged and destroyed on the new Blu-rays.

I don't know what that is (I think I've heard of it, isn't it an anime?), but I basically enjoy things for what they are, not for how they look, unless it's like VHS which never really looked good in the first place (as a kid I always wondered why my VHS recordings looked worse than what I saw on TV), and they degrade terribly.

I'll probably eventually upgrade, but I'm sure in no hurry to do so. Thing is, by the time I do, they'll probably be transitioning to 4k, then a few years later 8k or something. That's my issue with it, that they'll keep saying "look, this is better, now repurchase all of your movies" every few years. I'm not going to be sucked into that cycle.

That, and looking back, VHS tapes are some of the worst things I've ever laid eyes upon, that, and a lot of the movies in VHS undergo the Pan and Scan format, thank god that format died. Makes me wonder how Betamax lost the format war, it was so much better. Wow I'm lost and off topic, what was I mumbling on about again? Lol
