Strange GT dub

Post by _Jrinu_ » Sat Jun 24, 2006 5:48 pm

I was going through some old VHS tapes of mine, and I came across an old one labeled "DBGT".

I popped it in to the VCR and it begins playing the last 5 episodes of Dragonball GT. They were dubbed in english, but these were certainly not the FUNimation voices (which came as no surprise to me since I'm pretty sure I recall buying this bootlegged.) The part that really surprised me was that the footage clearly displays the "Toonami" logo in the top right corner.

Does anyone know anything about this weird dub?

Isn't there a Toonami UK? If so, then that might be the Blue Water dub, or whoever does the UK dub.

Miss. Veshira, allow me to congratulate you on your most excellent idea.

Because, as it turns out, the theory of these dubs being from the UK is 100% accurate.

The voices match up almost perfectly.

That's Miss Veshira to you! Glad to hear you found out what this mysterious dub was, however something puzzles me. You said the tapes were old, but wasn't DBGT dubbed by Ocean Group after Funimation dubbed it? There's a huge chance that I just have my information wrong, but I'm still wondering. :?

Well actually I just remembered where I got the tape from. I borrowed it from my friend and never returned them . So I had always assumed it was old but I guess not.

Also, I am soo sorry about the gender mix-up. Totally my bad.

There should some kind of indicator.

It was dubbed in Blue Water Studios in Canada before FUNimation did their dub, I believe.
Where's the beef?

It is Blue Water's Dragonball GT, dubbed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada back in early/mid-2003 for the International Market. It aired in the United Kingdom, Holland, and Canada.

Thanks El Diablo and Dark Vegeta-Sama for clearing that up for me.

Oh, and Jrinu, about my gender: it's okay. Text is genderless, so I didn't expect you to know I was a girl. :)

So I was right after all. On the subject of gender, I just want to tell you that I'm a girl too, in case you didn't know. :)

I'll tell you what though. I like that intro way more than the stupid rap intro by FUNimation. It's cool how they stuck with the original BGM in the episodes too.

Personally, I would love if someone could get that English version of "Dan Dan" ripped and available for download... I've been wanting to hear the English dub ver. of Dan Dan ever since I've heard of it's existance.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Erm, anyway... Yes. The opening to the UK version is very cool. It's strange that my mum thinks it was done by Ozzy Osbourne. Hmm... :?

I'm a big fan of the Blue Water dub because I live in the UK. I rcently watched a Funi episode on DVD, and my God, the rap intro was awful! Pan sounds like a woman as well. Why the hell isn't this dub on DVD fer cryin' out loud.

I, too, like the Blue Water dub. However, I feel that some of the voices were lacking: Vegeta sounded like a bad Brian Drummond impression; Goku had a "I have a typical superhero voice that tries too hard to not sound like a typical superhero voice" voice.

But I still like it. :)

Whoa.... are you meaning to tell me that Brian Drummond wasn't Vegeta's VA in the Blue Water Dub?

It means "unicorn." :D You too can join Steven Perry's Unicorn Clan if you pass the inhiation test.

I believe it's the same man, but yes, I've seen some Buu Saga clips of the Blue Water dub, and Vegeta wasn't sounding as good as he was in the Saiyan Saga and Namek Saga. Same goes for Goku, although I have no idea who was playing him in Blue Water. :?
