Vegeta retcon in the Buu arc?

I've been rewatching the Buu arc. When Gohan tells Bulma about the tournament, Vegeta says he'll enter if Gohan is going. But after Gohan's energy drain and Goku is about to leave the tournament, Vegeta says the reason why he came to the tournament was to settle the score with Goku. So which one is it?

Personally I like the latter one better, since it fits the whole "never fight again" line of the Cell Games.

If your watching the original funimation dub, take that with a pinch of salt as that may be a dub error. Id wait till Kai Buu or watch it in Japanese to make sure.

Vegeta probably just changed his main reason after he found out Kakarot was coming. Doesn't Goku say he'll join after Vegeta does?

Yeah.

I guess Vegeta had a breakdown after the Cell Games, and changed his mind when he realized that Gohan was going to slack off and thus easily be surpassed.

It's a simple change of focus. He wanted to test his new powers on Gohan, but after he heard Goku was going, he was like nope! That's my new reason for going.

Vegeta would have no reason to attend the tournament with no challenge, Gohan being the only stronger fighter was a reason to go (Only if Gohan himself attended of course)

Once he found out Goku was gonna be there, he focused on him instead of Gohan, bigger rivarly with "Kakarot" and also a bigger challenge when taking into account he knew Goku wouldn't have stopped training.

I think Vegeta wanted to enter to test his skills against Gohan, but once Goku said he wanted to join aswell, he changed his goal.
