Word is the English subtitles on the HK release are decent: http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/sho ... ods-EngSub
"Got my copies in - Japanese: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & Dolby Digital 2.0, Cantonese: Dolby Digital 2.0. Did a quick check on the English subs - seem fine to me. No obvious misspellings or other errors. Region A locked." -- poster Demon

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

You're more likely to find decent English subtitles in Hong Kong dvd and bluray nowadays.
There's a lot of folks in HK who speak fluently. And even hk distros find the time to seek out fluent speakers to work on them. Especially Chinese people born and raised overseas like me. I raised the bar when I worked on Jackie Chan's The Myth back in '05.

I'd also like to see some good images of the packaging, though I'm expecting it to be pretty standard.

Some screenshots are up, looks like they're using "Bills".
I'm half expecting to get the DVD in the mail today too...

It's interesting that they kept Japanese name suffixes.

It's not just that but Hon pointed out that the English version of "cha la head cha la" was used in both Japanese and Cantonese audio tracks.

Wait, what?! They use an English version of the song on both audio tracks?! That's crazy...tinlunlau wrote:It's not just that but Hon pointed out that the English version of "cha la head cha la" was used in both Japanese and Cantonese audio tracks.

I can cope with stuff like "Bills". Just as long as the subtitles get the point across.

Hard to speak based on the few screencaps, but they look like the same subtitles from the Australian theatrical release to me.

And it appears the japanese bluray is slightly cropped..
At this rate, we'll never get a definitive version of this on bluray.

Slightly cropped? I assume we're talking a difference of like 10 more pixels or so here, right? Hardly anything worth complaining about, seeing how no professional animators would be stupid enough to place any essential information that close to the edge of the picture.tinlunlau wrote:And it appears the japanese bluray is slightly cropped..

This whole thing with every international version getting Engrish versions of the songs sounds rather annoying though... Seriously, doing it for a dub is one thing, but when people put on the Japanese voices, won't they generally be wanting, y'know, the original audio? I know I would, anyway.

"English" version, as in, "sung by FLOW" version, right?

I'm confused. Are they saying it won't play on certain things despite being Region A?theoriginalbilis wrote:Region A locked.

So you can change the menu from the korean bluray to japanese? or is he just comparing the korean menu to the japanese one?
Also, does anyone have pics of the actual korean bluray packaging itself?

Ugh, those subs look pretty bad. I hate when subs keep stuff in like "sama". These look like crappy fansubs and something that a official company in the US would never do.

And I disagree. How does "Goku-sa" translates in English?Hellspawn28 wrote:Ugh, those subs look pretty bad. I hate when subs keep stuff in like "sama". These look like crappy fansubs and something that a official company in the US would never do.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
