Found some old recorded DBZ episodes on VHS!

Post by Baggie_Saiyan » Wed Nov 27, 2013 6:50 pm

So, I was looking for something in my loft, never found it, but instead I found some old VHS tapes (wonder what the quality is like) with Label's I made like this,
"Dragon Ball Z, DO NOT TOUCH OR I WILL KILL YOU ( ) Frieza Saga" and there was one that had "Goku goes super" . Ahh what great memories, sadly though no VHS player in site, looks like I will dispose of them :( or maybe keep them for nostalgic memories!

Anyone else, got some old VHS tapes that they personally rerecorded from their childhood, also do you guys still have a VHS Player?

Nice find! Thrift stores got VCR's for pretty cheap. Id hold on to them since toonami broadcasts are relatively popular amungst toonami fans

For me, I only got some of the beginning of the android saga on tape than I digitized.

Siiiince, I didn't like anything related to Dragon Ball when Toonami was running it, I have no self-recorded VHS tapes of the series. I'd keep them, if I were you! Just until you get a VHS player to watch them all. IT'S LIKE YOU HAVE TWO TIME CAPSULES, RIGHT IN YOUR HANDS.

I have more VHS tapes than I do sense. LOL :P  Yeah I actually have a-lot of full broadcasts of Toonami and I have a-lot of dragonball z vhs tapes. I even manged to record a long time ago the CN edited version of ''The Tree of Might''

Fun Fact that's useless information! I still buy blank tapes and record Toonami's full broadcasts as much as I can. I'd say I have well over 10 or 13 tapes full of Toonami. and that's not including the Homebrews I made and ones that I recorded back in the day. :D
Told ya I didn't have no sense LOL

I guess keeping them won't be a bad idea, then
I know this is a long shot but is there anyway to rip the VHS Tape? I really don't want to go digging around for old VHS players.

I think you need a VCR in order to rip the VHS tape, so it can be played/captured >< However, people like Kei would know a lot more about that :)

I'm not entirely sure....I'm sure someone here will be able to help you with it. But dude...dust off that VCR and have a good time haha  If you get a telephone beep noise in the beginning don't worry about it. that just means you're in for a treat!

I still wish I had my old fansubs bootleg VHS tapes. That VHS tape of Movie 8 holds a special place in my heart.

I never recorded Dragon Ball Z because it was on during a time I could watch! What I've got is tapes of Gundam Wing at midnight. Helllll yeah.
A YouTube channel with no AMVs on it? I know, it's hard to believe.

If you can get a hold of a Cassette Player and a DVD Recorder then you have it sorted out. That's the simplest way.

Here's a good example; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toshiba-DVR-1 ... 4d1556f4d1

That's a VCR-DVD Recorder Combo so no need to get two big boxes which you wouldn't use afterwards, I think. :P

I have the entirety of the Westwood Android and Buu Saga recorded on VHS. I got my College tutor to rip them and make digital copies when I got back into the series in 2010. It's fun to watch through them with the old Cartoon Network promos and everything.

I still have my old VHS Toonami tape recordings of DBZ (trunks saga through kid buu saga), DBGT, and Dragonball. I also have the TV version recordings of the DBZ movies Dead Zone, The World's Strongest, and Tree of Might. I also have the Spanish dub of Dragonball Z on my VHS tapes from when I recorded it from Telemundo and KWHY channels. They're all nicely stored, one of these days I'll play them again on my TV/VCR combo set. I also have the tape recording of the Spanish dub of that live-action movie Dragonball: The Magic Begins, I feel old now

Very cool! I've got some of my old VHS recordings of Dragon Ball Z on Cheese TV (that was on Channel 10 here in Australia). I've got a lot of the original Ocean Dub Saiyan arc stuff - including things like the Cargo Robot and Goku's father being a brilliant scientist. I know I had a ton more, including some Toonami recordings of the films/specials complete with the old promos, but I can't find any of them unfortunately.

Damn I haven't seen a VHS player or tape in years. I'd keep them if I were you, for the nostalgia.

Ha that's excellent. Definitely save them, but if you need to get them out of there you should consider ripping them; get a decent VCR from your local thrift store and a capture card and you'll be set.

I don't have any recorded tapes of DBZ or the like unfortunately. Wasn't into it at the time (though I had a shirt, go figure...), didn't even have cable (something I begged my parents for for years but only got at the dawn of the "Crappy Age of Cable\Satellite" into which we have fully settled). I do have an old 70s movie recorded off of a TV station in Chicago (WGN actually), go figure again...those old 80s Chicagoland business commercials are great. "TAKE A NEW LOOK AT AN OOOOLLLLLD FRIEEEEEEEEND JEWEEEELLLLL!"

*ahem* I also have a tape with both a Ren & Stimpy episode (Sven Hoek) and numerous Beavis and Buttheads on it, unfortunately most commercials are cut. Thanks Brother or Mother, they always cut the commercials when they taped stuff...used to have some other stuff too that I taped over when I was a kid, to my great chagrin now. Thanks 9 year old me.

So yeah, some movie, check, Ren & Stimpy, check, DB or DBZ? Midnight Run shows? Sci-Fi Saturday Anime? NOPE. Yes, it sucks as much as it sounds like. :(

Anyway, yeah, I definitely don't use VHS except for these kinds of tapes, and for some reason I have VHS copies of Pulp Fiction, Scarface and Silence of the Lambs (gone as soon as I stop being too lazy to upgrade them), those are the only uses I have for a VCR nowadays.

I never taped any DBZ but the one personally recorded VHS I remember was the pilot of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which my little brother taped several hours of BBC News over because he couldn't tell the difference between the record button and the play button.
I also remember recording the first series (post-reboot) of Doctor Who on VHS back in 2005. Those were hard times before Sky+ was around.

Haha yeah, I remember the amount of times my mum and dad recorded over my tapes, god I hope these weren't recorded over /:.
