Except I think mine's backgrounds are actually much better than the water colored, layered crap on the new Blu-rays.
Let's team up and re-master DBZ
To be fair, I'd really like to see a fan-remastered version, taking the Dragon Box footage, upscaling it to HD and color correcting it so it looks like the original broadcast.
I've only seen one Dragon Box upscale release, and it didn't color correct.

Hey guys I got a question. I been searching for a while on Walmart for the new Blu-ray release of Dragonball Z and I have yet to find it on there for pre-order. What gives? I seen it on there just a couple days ago... :?
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

You're right. The listing has been removed from Walmart for some reason.

Hoping or leaving negative "reviews" isn't really going to change anything on FUNimation's perspective but if you actually wanted to make your voice heard you'd send them an email, contact them via Facebook or something.

These purists are somewhat disappointing.

How are you so sure I haven't contacted them? And you're disappointed by people wanting a proper release? I'm disappointed by people knowingly perpetuating a piss poor representation of the series!

I doubt it's cancelled, but if it is, then the only thing I'll find truly disappointing will be the select few that are no doubt going to literally go 'HA HA, YOU DIDN'T GET THE RELEASE YOU WANTED' to the people that actually were looking forward to this.

It just kind of bothers me that people keep on bitching on forums/amazon and yet they didn't even support the DBZ Levels or sent FUNimation complaints about cancelling it or making these new 16x9 AR.

Would have I preferred the Levels rather than this? Yeah but from what I've seen I'll enjoy this one too.

The definitive version would be the Dragon Boxes Z remastered in 1080p HD with the NEPs, Japanese credits and clean Japanese audio on Blu-ray / Digital Copy but the Levels come a bit close though just in terms of picture quality.

I agree with you on this point at least. Even though I don't see how you could look forward to these new Blu-rays, people that bitch about them without having bought the Levels aren't that much better. I on the other hand bought 1.1 and 1.2 and eagerly awaited more, so I felt a little slighted when they were canceled. Same thing with the Ultimate Uncuts being canceled in favor of the Orange Bricks.

I don't even agree with this. If FUNimation wanted people to buy the Level sets, then they shouldn't have competed with their own damned product. I'm sorry, but I had just finished investing a few hundred dollars into collecting the Dragon Boxes. I didn't have the space or money to buy another release, especially when I considered the DBoxes to be the overall superior product and value. And if FUNimation can really make that kind of a business decision, and then believe lower than expected sales were because of people holding out for a 16:9 aspect ratio FROM THE FUTURE, then, I'm sorry, but they're idiots.

The Dragon Boxes themselves coming off the Orange Bricks, which some fans bought despite disliking the remastering for it being a consistent release. Then there were movie/TV special rereleases, Dragon Ball and GT bricks, Kai, etc. It seems backwards to me that the fans are somehow at fault for not having one grand on the side to throw at FUNimation Dragon Ball releases. There shouldn't have even been another full screen Z release immediately after the Dragon Boxes (at least give us a break in between the releases).

Why do you keep blaming the victim to defend FUNimation? Seriously, this cropped shit isn't worth doing it.

I didn't proof read that, what I meant was; Let FUNimation know that the DBZ Levels in 4x3 AR were better (complain letter) and that they'd be vastly superior than the 16x9 AR Blu-rays.

Sorry guys, this isn't Microsoft so don't expect them to change it to 4x3 AR for the rage that there's here and on Amazon US.

We did try to get a 4:3 AR for these sets, but FUNimation was likely going to make them widescreen from the beginning. They're not going to go back now. Properly remastering the footage is too expensive to justify cheap box sets, which is the only thing casual fans will buy. The anger is justified.

I believe Steve Franco said a while back that Dbz would never generate the sales required to justify a full blown restoration. I guess he was right.
