My favorites are Son Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo Daimao.
I love Goku for his naivety and how aloof he can be. He's laid back but he's always moving forward. Tell Son Goku that he can't do something and he'll make you eat those words.
Vegeta is the best villain in the series, hands down. A great villain and I love his transition through the series from being pure evil to shades of grey and, finally, a humbled, selfless man. I found it believable.
Piccolo Daimao worked well because he seemed to be the first real threat within the story. He killed Kuririn, something that I found to be emotionally jarring. At that point it was open season on any character.
My least favorites are probably Majin Boo, Broli, Mr. Satan, and General Blue.
I find Majin Boo and Broli to be rather boring characters. Not much in the way of depth. It surprises me that Broli managed to get three films.
Mr. Satan can be funny, but I thought he got way too much screen time.

I'd argue that Tao was the first real thread in the story though. He easily beat Goku, who only survived because he happened to be carrying his Dragon Ball.

Personally I like Gohan, especially in the Cell saga and when he becomes Mystic. However, I find him annoying in the Saiyan saga and when he was the Great Saiyaman.
I really can't stand Broly, he was obviously way too overpowered. I was so annoyed when they gave him a SSJ3 form in Raging Blast, his fan base just annoy me with all the fan pictures of him in stupid forms like SSJ10.

To be honest, he was only overpowered around the time he came out. By the Buu saga theres plenty of people who can whoop him. Thinking about it, I think my single least favorite character would actually have to be Vegetto. He's a combination of two of my least favorite characters, pulls too many things out of his ass (seriously? You can no-sell being tuned into candy? Fucking horse shit, you don't even have a brain!), is a living Deus Ex Machina, and has some of the most annoying fanboys ever.

I don't really find any Dragonball characters annoying, it's mainly GT characters that I dislike.
