There's honestly no reason for FUNimation to release a new 16:9 remaster unless it's using the Japanese broadcast audio. But I guess they gotta make back their Sgt. Frog and Level E money.

It's debatable. They're certainly doing a better job than they did with the DVD season set advertising (with false buzzwords like "uncut," "unedited," and "the way it was meant to be seen"). But one could argue that taking advantage of consumers' ignorance toward aspect ratios and producing a release that tries to fool people into thinking that 16:9 DBZ is a good thing is false advertising in its own right.dbboxkaifan wrote:Is FUNimation doing false advertisement? No.
Is FUNimation lying about re-framing the series? No. But that doesn't mean they're not still trying to deceive people on some level.

The season sets were still uncut.

Uncensored doesn't usually mean a new version of something, it's just the original version produced before edits had to be made to fit a certain rating.
So there was no original Funimation version with swearing and "an accurate script" that got cut down for broadcast. Some scenes weren't shown, some scenes were digitally painted. They were restored for the uncut version.

It's kinda funny that Dragon Ball is pretty much FUNimation's biggest title, but when they go back and redub stuff (like the first two Z "seasons" and Curse of the Blood Rubies), instead of readapting the script from scratch, they use the inaccurate version as the base. They can't even be bothered to put effort into it.

Why would they readapt from scratch? It still has to match the rest of what they've done, and the rest of what they've done was based off those scripts (and of course, to some degree they did readapt, to fit in the scenes that were never part of the original dub. They just didn't do it from scratch.)KingofWisdom wrote:instead of readapting the script from scratch, they use the inaccurate version as the base. They can't even be bothered to put effort into it.

Then they might as well have kept in the stuff about Bardock being a brilliant scientist.

Well, it's been said a lot, but they're a business; their priority is money. From a business perspective, it'd be a bad move to spend resources on coughing up a new script when the average consumer wouldn't even be able tell the difference. To the the latter group, a box set labeled Dragon Ball Z is Dragon Ball Z. I'm not saying it's ideal for us fans, but that's how things will be for most releases. I'm just glad they took the opportunity to make a faithful dub with Kai.KingofWisdom wrote:It's kinda funny that Dragon Ball is pretty much FUNimation's biggest title, but when they go back and redub stuff (like the first two Z "seasons" and Curse of the Blood Rubies), instead of readapting the script from scratch, they use the inaccurate version as the base. The difference between that and their "remastering" process is that more people would actually care about a shiny new version of the series than they would for script changes... If anything, I think they'd be offended by the latter, ironically.
Well, the problem is, they had to retcon a few things. Back in the Saban days, I don't think anyone at FUNimation knew that Bardock would make an appearance, hence why they took liberties with his character. They made a few changes, but pretty much the bare minimum to make the redub somewhat consistent.KingofWisdom wrote:Then they might as well have kept in the stuff about Bardock being a brilliant scientist.
You don't seem to get the point. What people are upset about isn't 16:9, but the butchering of the top and bottom portions of a frame that was animated with a 4:3 aspect ratio in mind. The movies and all pieces of animation following 2008 were animated with 16:9 in mind.dbboxkaifan wrote:If people really detest 16x9 AR on Dragon Ball media then I guess Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans (BD & DVD), Dragon Ball: Goku and Friends (DVD), Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock (DVD), Dragon Box: The Movies (DVD), Dragon Ball Kai (DVD & TV), Dragon Ball: Ultimate Blast (BD & DVD) and Dragon Ball: Battle of Z (BD & DVD) will be on the "hatelist".

I actually have a theory about that (and if it turns out that I got this theory from someone else and just forgot, I apologize): is it possible that Funimation is contractually obligated to retain a certain amount of the original writers' script whenever they redub something? If that were the case, I can understand why their redubs retain some of the old dialogue. Since Kai is technically a separate entity, requiring a new license and everything, that could possibly explain why they went for the more accurate route with it. It's a thought. Heh, maybe I'm giving Funi a little too much credit.KingofWisdom wrote:It's kinda funny that Dragon Ball is pretty much FUNimation's biggest title, but when they go back and redub stuff (like the first two Z "seasons" and Curse of the Blood Rubies), instead of readapting the script from scratch, they use the inaccurate version as the base. Well, to me, people seem to have been having worthful discussions about many things from several aspects, but all what you've posted in this thread seems to be just "I love this release and 16:9 aspect ratio no matter how the show was originally intended to be so don't blame FUNimation you elitist assholes" and you haven't brought up anything worthwhile to the table. This is what I call "repetitiveness":dbboxkaifan wrote:Tape @ You've got to understand that all the whining and moaning is annoying and repetitive, I'm just tired of it honestly.
dbboxkaifan wrote:I do hope that Amazon puts a stop to the fake reviews on DBZ Season 1 and now, Season 2 on Blu-ray. Leave that for those who're going to receive and then review it.
dbboxkaifan wrote:Hoping or leaving negative "reviews" isn't really going to change anything on FUNimation's perspective but if you actually wanted to make your voice heard you'd send them an email, contact them via Facebook or something.
These purists are somewhat disappointing.
dbboxkaifan wrote:It just kind of bothers me that people keep on bitching on forums/amazon and yet they didn't even support the DBZ Levels or sent FUNimation complaints about cancelling it or making these new 16x9 AR.
Not to sound like a mini mod, but I recommend that you don't post replies in this thread unless you have something to say other than "whining and bitching about" people's complaints against this release.dbboxkaifan wrote:It's just that the hardcore/purists need to stop acting like a bunch of elitist assholes who think they know what's best for the next person. It's a choice, get over it.
It's quite hilarious that you haven't even understood what the problem is here after all the arguments in this thread.dbboxkaifan wrote:If people really detest 16x9 AR on Dragon Ball media then I guess Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans (BD & DVD), Dragon Ball: Goku and Friends (DVD), Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock (DVD), Dragon Box: The Movies (DVD), Dragon Ball Kai (DVD & TV), Dragon Ball: Ultimate Blast (BD & DVD) and Dragon Ball: Battle of Z (BD & DVD) will be on the "hatelist".

Pretty much in agreement, here. dbboxkaifan, you're whining about supposed whining, and that's all you're doing at this point. Your comparisons make absolutely zero logical sense, you have no new contributions to the conversation, you're getting rude, you're getting redundant, and it needs to stop.

Could you please describe what's in the file? I don't usually DL stuff without knowing what it exactly contains. Is it footage from the BDs themselves?
