Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussion
The topics for the Full Colour Comics are all over the place and I can't for the life of me find the old one that this would usually go in, so I thought I may as well start a fresh one for VIZ's physical release of them.
Anyway, Amazon now has a listing for the 2nd volume, along with cover art. It's due out on April Fools' and the cover is as you'd expect, although it does seem a little bare when compared to the Japanese version of the book because of the way the text is laid out on the cover.
Really looking forward to picking these up. I just hope Viz doesn't find a way to screw these up.
EDIT: Viz has put up a photo of the thing on their Facebook page:

They're not gonna do redo their translation, but for the life of me I hope they don't see the need to change the sound effects.

I doubt they'll do that or much editing due to just how much more effort it would be to alter full color material when compared to black and white material.B wrote:They're not gonna do redo their translation, but for the life of me I hope they don't see the need to change the sound effects.
Looking forward to these, especially with them being American Graphic Novel size.
Also, here's my topic that I ironically started over a month before they were announced for Japan. I was psychic, lol.

Huh, they're not labeling that portion of the manga as Dragon Ball "Z" for once. A nice surprise.

*Sigh* I wish I wouldn't have came in here. I been wanting the entire manga in color for a long while now and I will pick this up some time later down the road. I'm saving up for Battle of Gods Blu-ray limited edition so that's my main goal at the moment haha I'm really digging the cover art on that.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

They said a while ago it would be the size of an American Graphic Novel, which is like 33% bigger or so than a normal volume they put out. Something comparable in size to the Shonen Jump volumes they used to put out (in height at least).AjayLikesGaming wrote:That is...surprisingly high quality.

Full color and at that size...it's going to make for an enjoyable read.
I do hope down the line, if this suceeds, that they'll put out DB in full color in volumes as well.

Mm, I remember reading, I just didn't expect it to be so thick and high quality. Very happy!

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
For $9.99 this is an awesome deal but so far they're just covering the Z-portion not the original Dragon Ball. :-/
I would've preferred to start with Dragon Ball as a newcomer to the manga that'd been the best way not with its sequel.

It would be an awesome deal at $9.99, but so far the cheapest I've seen is $15 and they are going to retail for $20.dbboxkaifan wrote:For $9.99 this is an awesome deal but so far they're just covering the Z-portion not the original Dragon Ball. :-/

Which is pretty standard pricing for a book this size in paperback (I think it's a bit thicker than the ones I usually see for $17).TheDevilsCorpse wrote:It would be an awesome deal at $9.99, but so far the cheapest I've seen is $15 and they are going to retail for $20.dbboxkaifan wrote:For $9.99 this is an awesome deal but so far they're just covering the Z-portion not the original Dragon Ball. :-/
But I'd pay $30-$40 for a Hardcover. I do prefer a nice hardcover. But, given what we've gotten in the past, this is still a huge improvement.

Really? Hot damn, I've got something like $13 or $14 of Amazon credit just sitting there waiting for something worthwhile.Tyro wrote:Amazon has it listed for $9.99.
Aaaaand pre-ordered.
Dragon Ball ended in 1997.
Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
And I only just completed the VizBigs, too. I don't know if I want to start collecting this, but if the paper quality is good I'm really tempted.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
I think i'll wait until it's confirmed that the Android Saga will be released physically, then I will start purchasing these.

They haven't actually, the sound effects are left in but with a little subtitle under them.B wrote:They're not gonna do redo their translation, but for the life of me I hope they don't see the need to change the sound effects.

It is on Amazon.com.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:It would be an awesome deal at $9.99, but so far the cheapest I've seen is $15 and they are going to retail for $20.
Volume 1 - http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Full- ... ball+manga ($9.99)
Volume 2 - http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Full- ... ball+manga ($12.64)
I'm tempted to pre-order both but skipping the original Dragon Ball does lose some of its value, I'll have to think about it.

Re: VIZ's Release of the Full Colour Comics
Are you talking about the actual book, or the digital version in the American Weekly Shonen Jump? Because the whole idea of of Viz's WSJ is to release series simultaneous with Japan, so there's no time to actually do any sort of editing before they put it up. With a physical release that doesn't officially come out until February 2014, that may be exactly why it would take that long; converting all the Japanese SFX into English words where appropriate. The Time Traveller wrote:They haven't actually, the sound effects are left in but with a little subtitle under them.B wrote:They're not gonna do redo their translation, but for the life of me I hope they don't see the need to change the sound effects.
If you are talking about the physical book, then hot damn!
EDIT: I guess I should also say that while I'm not fan of altered sound effects, it's not a dealbreaker for me. Editing the actual art, characters and backgrounds, would be.
