In a few rare instances, yes. I normally keep my nerd interests on the down low.

Eh, IMO, the dub gets up to par at around Season 5, though that's a pretty long ways away...hmm...if nothing else, I'd hate for them to not experience Bruce Faulconer's music
...
EDIT: You know what though, I guess I WILL at least try to see if they can stomach Z and it's constant filler. Maybe some of em' will like it better!

I actually teach Advanced Studies in Dragon Ball Z at Florida State (worth 2.5 credits per semester, meets MWF), but I'm on sabbatical so I can finish my period piece novel which depicts the DB Earth during the Industrial Revolution, as seen through the eyes of the child of Katatsu. It's called Has Anyone Seen My Arm? You Can't Miss It, It's Oiled With The Blood Of The Working Class.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

A guy in Wawa saw the Capsule Corp t-shirt I was wearing that day and said, "hey, they're making a new series you know."
I had to disappoint him by saying, "nah, that's just an internet rumor. Only big new thing right now is the new movie."
And he was all like, "oh, bummer."

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Whenever I try, I usually get ignored.. Haha. Even when the conversation is on dragonball.
Re: Have you ever taught someone about Dragonball Z?
Well my younger brother as well as mom and dad know about Dragonball thanks to me. Brother knows well about DB characters and story and is a fan, just not a hardcore fan as me, just casual fan. My mom and dad only know who Goku is (the guy with the spiky hair, that Goku
). Which is surprising because my mom and dad aren't the TV/movie watching types. They probably only know of Batman and Goku because of me.
Me and my friend also introduced my friend's newphew to the world of DBZ thanks to the videogames. I think it was BT2 the one we let him play. He loved it.
Besides that, I don't think I've introduced anyone to the show. If I ever have sons or nephews I'm definitely giving them my Kai BDs. If they end up really liking the show, then I'll introduce them to the full version via the Dragonboxes.
Should I do this with my daughters/nieces? I wouldn't want them to go full Pan and start punching people.

Him: Dude, did you know they're making a new DBZ show?
Me: Didn't see it on Kanzenshuu, so it's not true.
Him: What's that? And I saw it on 9gag. What they post there is usually true (he actually said this).
Me: Kanzenshuu is the #1 source for Dragonball info on the internet. If it isn't there, it isn't true.
Him: Oh.. well that sucks.
..I am such a nerd.

Yes, I've done this a bunch of times but one in particular stands out in my mind was when a former friend and I were talking he was saying .

Re: Have you ever taught someone about Dragonball Z?
There's like two guys at work who know about DRAGON BAWL ZEE and they know the story, the sad part is that they dislike Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT. Why? It's not as fast-paced and action-packed as DBZ.
Oh, they didn't even knew about Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods or the unsatisfying-rushed-cash-cow called Dragon Ball Kai, at least Kai they sort of should be aware because that thing came out in 2009 and it's 2013 (not too far away from 2014).

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Problem with that for me is that when I usually start talking, I can't seem to shut up. (Thank god they are willing to listen tho.)Insertclevername wrote:In a few rare instances, yes. I normally keep my nerd interests on the down low.
Re: Have you ever taught someone about Dragonball Z?
After unsuccessfully trying to get some of my younger cousins into DBZ over the years, I've finally had success with my 6 year old niece recently.
Started off with just watching a few YouTube clips with her on my phone where she only seemed mildly interested, but seeing her again not too long afterwards, she's telling me she's watching DBZ Kai on Kix and she seems pretty into it now. Job finally done I think.

Wawa as in Warszawa?Kaboom wrote:A guy in Wawa
I taught my cousin's son (who was around 6 at the time) a lot about Dragonball, I didn't introduce him, though.
It was obvious that he watched the dub, because he liked to when he drew the characters make them say stuff about sending them to the next dimension. And he once drew Dr. Gero mangled in his lab screaming "Curse yoooou!".
His favorite character was Piccolo (as is mine) and I drew him a picture of him (which by the way was very awful if I remember right) and he was like "Cool, it looks like a poster".
Now he is starting College, and is that little kid no more, with no interest in Dragonball.
But we could sit and talk about it a lot when he was a kid.

Well I don't know this count. But my Older Brother taught me about DBZ by giving me old bootleg taps and explaining me the plot. I did the same for my younger brother. Yup with the same fucking tapes.
