Has Akira Toriyama ever seen the abridged series?
I was just wondering if he has heard of it/seen it and if so what he thought about it.
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

Why he would it? He is almost 60 years old and I doubt he has time to use the Internet. Besides, I doubt anyone in Japan knows about DBA since it's mostly a American fandom thing. He also knows very little English from what I've been told, so I doubt he would understand it.

I've seen some other English-made Abridged series being subtitled into other languages for fans worldwide, but I'm not sure if "DBZ Abridged with Japanese subs" is among them. If it has been, then at least the chance exists for Toriyama to have seen it.
As for what he'd think of it... I dunno, I suspect that as long as the jokes are conveyed well enough (there's relatively little that relies on knowledge of any specific dub of the show), he might get a kick out of it. If there's anything I suspect the man could appreciate, it'd be a humorous approach to Dragon Ball's story.

All of this is accurate.Hellspawn28 wrote:Why he would it? He is almost 60 years old and I doubt he has time to use the Internet. It's extremely unlikely he would bother.
I play baseball and work in LA.

I'd be surprised if he'd seen all 291 episodes of DBZ, let alone Abridged.

There are not many Funi-specific jokes, but there are many, many puns that wouldn't make sense outside the English-speaking fandom. I directed a short lived Spanish dub of DBZA, and wrote scripts for season one, and you'd surprised about how many adaptations I had to make so the jokes made sense. Not just English dub jokes (which I converted into Spanish dub jokes) but overly American ones, or the ones based on accents.Kaboom wrote:As for what he'd think of it... He did watch it with his kids when it was airing in TV, so I wouldn't be surprised.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:I'd be surprised if he'd seen all 291 episodes of DBZ, let alone Abridged.
