She doesn't have just a kid voice (Goku, GT Goku, childhood Gohan, boyhood Gohan, Goten, and Goku Jr.), adult voice (Goku, Gohan, and Goten) and "evil" voice (Bardock, Tullece, and SS3/4 Goku). There are differences in every character's voice, based on their personality.Storm wrote:C'mon, now. James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Her Tullece is my favorite, personally. Hearing Nozawa go full evil like that is amazing.

This. Turles is definitely my favorite. Bardock second. I don't hate on Nozawa, I just wish there were different actors.Storm wrote:Her Tullece is my favorite, personally. Hearing Nozawa go full evil like that is amazing.

Yeah a fan of her Tullece as well. Would've liked to see the dub follow suit. Especially with Schemmel playing villains in most of his work.
My complaints are mainly what others said:
- Bardock is the only role of Nozawa's I don't like her in, would've been nice to see Gohan get recast when he's older since he's not the manchild Goku is. I would have rather had Shigeru Chiba voice Bardock.
- Audio quality making it sound like the recordings are from the 60's without any care for keeping it sounding pristine. Or maybe I've been spoiled by clips of the broadcast audio and the official will pale in comparison for most of the series.

Re: Things you Dislike about the Japanese version.
So people like her Tullece but not her Bardock? I admit that one surprises me quite a bit. After all, they're both basically evil clones of Goku. So why does the former work and not the latter?

I think it's because Tullece is meant to be an evil verson of Goku, but Bardock is just meant to be Goku's dad.
Personally, I love her Bardock.

Her Bardock sounds a lot like her Super Saiyan Goku, actually. Mostly a deeper sounding Goku with the hick inflections removed.

Since always. Bardock and Tullece were both designed by taking Goku and putting him into Saiyan armor. Obviously I don't mean from an in-universe perspective. I mean from a production perspective. They're evil Goku clones.TheGmGoken wrote:Bardock is a evil clone? Since when?. Tullece I can see but Bardock?

Re: Things you Dislike about the Japanese version.
To be fair. If we use Bardock's original design then he's not an evil clone design. Nothing about Bardock screams evil when it comes to a design. Besides he is Goku's father. So......Goku should look like his daddy. Where you think he got the hairGaffer Tape wrote:Since always. Bardock and Tullece were both designed by taking Goku and putting him into Saiyan armor. Sure it does. He's put into clothing that, at the point in the series the special was released, had only ever been worn by antagonists. Hell, when Gohan and Kuririn got armor, they made the same comparison. Bardock has facial scars, which is often, not always but often, given in fiction to evil characters. He has closed-drawn eyes, which Toriyama usually uses for antagonistic characters. So, yeah, he is drawn like Goku but with evil characteristics. And, again, from a production standpoint, Bardock inherited his hair from his son, not the other way around.

Re: Things you Dislike about the Japanese version.
It's not different enough from my experience. Admittedly, I haven't heard much of her Goten, but I have heard her Bardock, and even there, he sounded too much like Goku. Really, the only voices she had that are significantly different enough was her child Gohan voice and her SSJ3/SSJ4 voice. If there were ANY other voices that she used at the same time in a certain scene, than it really was like listening to my 5th Grade teacher read "The Thief Lord" or some other book again. Of course she's going to say things different, at slightly different pitches, and maybe even add an accent when reading different characters...but it's still clear as day that it's the same person doing all the voices.C'mon, now. Surely when you hear Goku and Gohan talk to each other in the Buu arc you can tell the different pitches and intonations Nozawa uses between the two.

I think you know what I'm trying to say though? That they sound too similar, to the point that it's distracting to me?Storm wrote:There's a difference between that and them sounding "exactly the same."Fionordequester wrote:but it's still clear as day that it's the same person doing all the voices.

Sure, but originally I wasn't addressing you:

-Goku and Krillin's voices being the same even as they've clearly outgrown them, and Nozawa playing every damn male member of Goku's family despite how little sense it makes.
-Around the Android saga, the music becomes increasingly boring and repetitive, and the Buu saga it feels like dull background noise that does little to actually enhance what's going on in the show.
-The silence makes the already boring-as-shit staredowns and filler scenes even more unbearable. At least during the dub, shit is actually somewhat happening
And in general, I just prefer to watch shows in my own language. The subtitles detach me from the show and remind me that I'm just watching a scripted series of events - I can't immerse myself in the show. As a result, it just amounts to me watching a bunch of guys speak gibberish while I read stuff at the bottom of the screen. If I have to use my imagination to hear the words, I prefer to do it on my own terms and not be restricted by the visuals and voices.

Re: Things you Dislike about the Japanese version.
Just the dialogue mostly. I was watching a few episodes of the Cell Games and it was basically:
*Goku and Cell fight* *then they stop*
Cell: Son Goku you're a strong person. This level of fight is what I deserve!
Goku: Yeah I know you are a pretty strong guy too huh
Cell: Okay now let's continue!
*they fight some more*
Gohan: Father!
Piccolo: Grr...Son Goku
Trunks: Goku-san!
Vegeta: ...........
Krillin: If there is one thing I can say for sure it's that these guys are absolutely strong!
Announcer dude: Mr. Satan just what exactly is going on?
Mr. Satan: It's a trick. Ow my stomach!
And I swear to God I watched like...from the Goku vs Cell portion all the way until Cell is defeated and I swear to God just about all the dialogue is just some variation of everything I said above. Like I never knew you could repeat the same stuff so many times (in slightly different ways) but by God they do it. Every episode it just boils down to "Oh my god look how strong these guys are!" and "Goku-san! Gohan-kun!" and that's about it. In fact if you watch all those episode some stuff/terms you'll see crop up a lot are:
"Sure enough..."
"It can't be helped..."
"Reckless..."
"These guys...."
"Those guys...."
"You guys..."
"Is this a joke?"
"Absolutely..."
"Utterly..."
"Tremendously..."
"Narrowly..."
Right...So I mean it's not a deal breaker...like it's not that bad but after a few episodes it just makes it kinda boring to be reading the same dialogue over and over and over again. Not only that but several characters just end up repeating what the dude next to em just said...The only time it changes up is when the plot is like switching to something else.
