I'm just sad I sold my Dragon Box set 2 because the BD level sets were coming out. Then they just stop. And now these sets aren't an actual thing I want. Those level sets were so much nicer.

Well, honestly the cropping looks to done properly (that Nappa shot looks rather odd) and the colours are pretty good too, I'd dare to say they're better than on the Dragon Boxes Z.
I can agree with the cropping looks great and I get where they were going with the Nappa shot so that makes sense to me. Color wise is a debate that will never be settled, and unless we get a time machine or a flux capacitor this won't be solved but maybe Marty will help us out?

Colors look good in my opinion, better than the seasons but I'll wait until I can view it on my own TV as I hate Youtube's compressing><..
This doesn't look bad and if it's digitally done and DONE properly the layers that remove the grain can be deleted and this we got the layers but the color correction doesn't seem bad and if it's not super bright this could be an enjoyable release but still wish it was 4x3

Does anyone have a shot of the first screenshot? I don't remember Roshi's shirt being detailess...

I'd actually like to see more than split-second split-screen shots of the actual end product. Right now, with how they're doing it, I feel like they're hiding something. :?

Your digital upscales of 480p footage, color-corrected and filtered with free programs, look better than a "professional" product.

Accounts have been charged! Likely by the end of the week, we'll see how these look for real! I'm scared and excited at the same time. It's been a while since I've watched the show, and I've been pining for a new release!

Just wondering, are there any others who ordered this? If only out of morbid curiosity, if not actual interest?

We don't know that for sure so we'll have to wait for the real Season 1 Blu-ray to come out and then things will settle down, also, it'll feature a "Sneak Peek" .

Interestingly here's some info about it (everyone probably knows already).
The Saiyans are coming! These ruthless, intergalactic villains carved a path of destruction across the galaxy, and now they're headed for Earth! The evil Saiyan warlord Vegeta will not rest until he's seized the wish-granting powers of the Dragon Balls for himself! Goku vs. Vegeta! The battle of all battles begins now!
Make room on your shelves because the Dragon Ball Z Season Sets are finally on Blu-ray! We embarked on a frame-by-frame restoration process to remove any blemishes, tape marks, and foreign bodies that might have tarnished your viewing experience. All three audio tracks have been re-mastered in the interest of noise reduction and superior sound quality. The bolder, more vibrant color of this ultimate Dragon Ball Z release closely mirrors the visual aesthetics of today's entertainment. Lastly, we undertook a precise shot-by-shot reframing of the entire series to create a modern HD widescreen presentation of this legendary fan favorite! It's time to experience Dragon Ball Z like you've never experienced it before!
I have to say that I'm curious how the process behind this remasterisation is being done, if not automated as you're thinking.

What bothers me most about this is that noise removal in such large batches such as this is generally automated. As we all know, Funimation are about as heavy handed as it comes so I am fully expecting them to have accidentally 'noise removed' the wind and certain frequencies of the SFX.

Not long til we find out but I'm not exactly holding my breath.

If the muffled Japanese audio on the Double Features is a result of their said noise reduction, I want to say "just let it be".

Honestly, I wouldn't say they look awful. The DBoxes & LVL Sets are superior to these, but they're far better from the DVD Season Sets.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Maybe if you're wearing sunglasses and squint your eyes. But, even if you prefer the much brighter colors, I don't know how you can argue that completely hammering out the grain is a good thing. The art looks so plain without grain, not to even touch upon the destruction of detail in the backgrounds. At best, the new remaster might be an improvement for being consistently terrible as opposed to having issues all over the map.

You might be able to make an argument for the first 5, due to the disappearing lines, but at best I'd say they're on par, since the orange bricks had more background details and outside of season 2, better colors.

Now, seasons 6 and on? Those are vastly superior to the upcoming Blu-rays due to their improved colors and retained grain. I actually think that many episodes from those sets' colors give the Dragon Box a run for their money.

Not saying I like this blu ray release but how can you know what these blu rays will look like once they get to season six based on a couple of scenes from season 1? From what little we've been shown we've seen an improvement in the colors through out the set. For example

Piccolo later in the set

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

He's basing that on assumptions and we've really seen very little of it, we'll know for sure what the final product will be like once there'll be 1:1 .png screenshots available and downloadable sample videos (YouTube is shit for HD comparisons).

Call me crazy but I don't remember any retaining grain in any of the Orange Brick DVDs, and I do remember missing lines being a problem, even after the Season 5 set.

The latter shot still looks like crap. It merely looks better by comparison.
