Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People
I preordered the Dragon Ball Full Color, volume 1 a week or so ago. It was $9.99 when I ordered it, and it's gone up since then. I'm looking forward to getting it.

Damn. Dare I ask how much that cost you?
Beware the answer
kei17 wrote:I found it on Yahoo! Auctions. Fortunately, it was put up in a wrong category, so it cost only about 6,000 yen. As for how actually it looks, I have to send it to a studio that can handle 16mm film telecine because I don't have any film projectors. I'm planning to transfer my 16mm reels in HD within the next year.

It's not at my house yet, but I ordered the Medicos Super Figure Art Collection Super Saiyan Son Goku (ver. 1)
It's perhaps the highest coveted figure (and version of this figure) of Goku out there currently. It was released in 2011, and is about 10 inches tall.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?
Favorite movies -
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Zack Snyder's Justice League

Glad I'm not the only one SSJ4 Furanki to get the original Dragonball series for Christmas!
Edit - and I got Dragon-box 5 as well!
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128 Still recording Toonami broadcasts on VHS after all these years! #1 Paikuhan fan!

What a mixed bag you have there, the only good DB boxes from that collection's US Dragonbox Z & Kai Parts 1-4.
The rest is still enjoyable though.
No doubt! Yeah, I would prefer FUNimation released the Dragon Boxes for DB/GT/Movies, but the sets out are serviceable. I'm content as long as the boxes are fullscreen. Other than the Z movies, but those were made with cropping in mind. So that doesn't bother me too much. All I need now to complete the collection is the Trunks/Bardock specials (which I forgot about, but I always can get those another time) and the specials that are yet to be released in the US.

Yep! Have had all of Z via Dragon Boxes minus the movies, all of GT and what currently is available for Kai! Without a doubt will buy the new 'Parts' as they come out. Pretty much get Z for the Japanese version and Kai for its dub/faster pace. Will be double dipping for Battle of Gods when it's out here.

Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
Anyway, my DBZ Rock the Dragon Edition and DBGT Lost Episodes Box should arrive tomorrow or sometime during this week or the next tops.
True, each set has certain pros and cons. I like the Green Bricks for having the Dub with Japanese BGM and for being cheap. The boxes you mentioned I did have one of them at a previous point. I would always watch it in Japanese on the singles since it had no 'Dub with Japanese BGM' option. It did have better video options due to the alternate angles, which I wish FUNimation still did.
dbboxkaifan wrote:Bought this after being aware it comes bundled with the Portuguese dub which I've always and originally was the way I first watched the series.
Pros:
- Includes the Portuguese (Portugal) dub which was never released in Portugal, or for that matter, on DVD.
- Features the Japanese audio, French dub, Spanish dub and Portuguese dub.
- Menus are in its own languages.
- Episodes 1 to 4.
Cons:
- The dubbed languages don't include the dubbed openings so that's a shame, especially for the PT dub because in this specific case would have been in high quality.
- The Japanese opening for some reason also has subtitles in Japanese rather than one of the other languages, this alienates the audience.
- After this volume they cancelled this release.
It really is a shame they never continued this release. I loved the menus and the fact that it had so many dubs.
