Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
I honestly hope that in 20 years someone writes a inside story tell all book about how all of these releases were made and why they were made in certain ways. There really are very few examples of franchises with this many oddly remastered releases. IMO this is much worse then some others like macross or even EVA. I am really interested at what point did they pull the plug on the level set remaster, timing wise it seems like its possible that they pulled the plug before they even released the first volume considering that these companies have to work ahead of schedule.
Back to the Blu-Ray set, has it been confirmed that they have solved the disappearing lines problem from the Orange bricks? I would consider that a check in the win column for this release.

I'm not overly familiar with at which points lines disappeared on the Orange Bricks, since I never owned the ones that were plagued with that issue, but I do know about the disappearing lines on that one shot of Nappa, and I can confirm that his lines are completely intact for the releaseTheMajinRedComet wrote:

Um, no. That was AB Groupe who made it so popular in Europe/Canada.

I can't confirm it... but at this point it's already a sunk cost. Why wouldn't they put that work to some use? Why would they return to a less-than-fully-restored version for the first set of episodes? It would be a cost saving measure - which is what drove them to abandon the Level Sets.kei17 wrote:Is that confirmed?ect5150 wrote:But keep in mind, this is footage that was already hand restored for the Level Sets.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I thought the "I'm pretty amazing" remark wasn't serious. In the same video he basically says he was a college kid that got hired and was just in the right place at the right time with an extremely small voice acting pool. Which is why he did a lot of the voices.dbboxkaifan wrote:Making the characters all sound extremely the same is not amazing, it's just annoying.VegettoEX wrote:What are you trying to say? By the way guys, can anyone tell me if they are region A or are they A/B?
Every webshop I look tells me region A only, like on Amazon for example, but the image looks like it says A/B on the discs.
And is there any indication theres going to be some sort of spine-art?
Even though the boxes will be a lot smaller than the DVD collection.

Ah thanks, I looked at the video you posted a few pages back, looks pretty good. I am actually considering getting these, as I don't have a release of Z yet.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:It is both Region A and B says on disc and box artAerosol wrote:By the way guys, can anyone tell me if they are region A or are they A/B?

That should be enough proof but if more's necessary then one of the owners who have it here plus a BDP on their PC can check what regions it's playable on, but most likely it's just as advertised (A & B).Baggie_Saiyan wrote:It is both Region A and B says on disc and box art

Chris Sabat. The voice of DBZ. He turned DBZ into an international phenomenon.
And again, the USA are the center of the world. The poor undeveloped other countries didn't even know what DBZ was until the awesome Chris Sabat appeared!

Some of you are seriously taking way too much offense from Chris Sabat cracking a joke. There's no way he seriously meant that DBZ was only successful because of him. Kami forbid the guy himself make a joke about how he was every third character when the in-house dub started, not like the fandom's been making the same joke for years or anything.

The eyecatches are like 15 seconds of the show...Funimation added the same color to the sides of the original image which probably took even less time to do. It's really not worth talking about so much IMO.
Also, the level sets were the worst timed release of anything, ever. Heck, with Kai still in production it seems odd they are even releasing this set.
I've only ever watched the Kai Blu-rays + seasons 7/8/9 orange bricks and the level 1.1 Blu-ray. I never watched the original show on TV when I was a kid. I loved Kai so much that I actually want to buy the entire 291 episode series to see all the "filler". The old dub is pretty hard to get past, but besides that if this release was closer to the Level Sets I would've bought it. I loved the Kikuchi music in Kai, and I'd also love to try out the US broadcast audio. I get what they're trying to do with "modernizing" the show. It just bothers me because I know and understand how Dragon Ball should look, and this isn't it. I want my Blu-rays and I want the material on them to look as close to the original source as possible, unless a PROPER restoration takes place like in the case of the level sets.

It may be better if the viewer's sole interest is in the English dub. The low quality Japanese track meshes even more poorly with these visuals than they do with the early Orange Bricks.Fizzer wrote:I've just been looking on the Amazon page again, and it's really sad to see this with a significantly lower score than the orange bricks, when it's actually a better product.

I'm a little tired of an editor telling me on every set how new an experience they're giving me and how much care is going into the restoration. It's become a little much.
