How often do you rewatch the series?
How often do you rewatch the series?
How often do you guys rewatch the series? Do you find that you can watch it an infinite number of times without tiring of it at all? Or do you take long breaks from it so that you can find it more fresh and interesting again when you come back to it? I usually watch all of Z at least once a year although this past year I've watched the first half of Kai several times on TV as well as the second half a few times too. Sometimes I do like to give it a bit of a break so that my interest doesn't burn out from repetition.
Also, do you always watch the same version of the series or do you sometimes watch different dubs/versions just to keep things fresh and interesting?

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
I watched DBZ with Ocean's cast up to Namek for the sake of nostalgia back in April. I then switched over to Kai to see what the experience was like with an English dub that wasn't horrendously translated and to hear Yamamoto's score for at least a good bulk of the series. That led from May into June at which point I took a break from the TV show to read the manga and give the movies a watch in Japanese.
I fell in love with the Japanese cast and then started GT since I hadn't seen it in its entirety. Following that I watched Dragon Ball in Japanese and moved into the Z portion right up to midway through the Namek arc. That took pretty much the entire summer.
I took quite a long break for a few months since I'd totally burnt myself out on watching and reading the same things over and over. When I returned about 2 months ago, I started watching Kai and Z at the same time - I'd watch Z first for a few episodes and then the episodes of Kai that it took to catch up. I wanted to see how the Japanese cast's acting had changed and how much the editing and Yamamoto's score could make a difference in tone.
I continued doing that right through to the end of the Goku vs. Freeza fight at which point I switched entirely over Z and am currently making my way through the Artificial Humans saga. I think I'll probably rewatch that portion with Kai once Cell appears so I guess I'm pretty much continuing where I left off.
So yeah, I technically rewatch it a lot. I'm always going through different ways to watch the series for the sake of comparisons and...honestly, it's just a nice way to keep things fresh.
Yes, I do need breaks. Sometimes days, sometimes months. It's certainly very easy to burn yourself out on something so familiar.
Does anyone else simultaneously watch different versions of the show to keep things fresh?

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
I used to rewatch the series all the time because until last year it was still airing on TV (and it still is, just a different channel that I don't have the means to watch), so like, I watched a episode a day.
Last year however, since my friend got me his bootleg set, I decided to watch it 6 episodes a day (the number of episodes a JPN DBOX disc has) along with all the movies.
I would usually watch it with PT dub with subs to compare the scripts or without the subs.
Sometimes I rushed to some parts a bit too fast and the next day I was kinda tired (watching the Garlic Jr. Saga in 1 day is bad for your health), other times I would just watch 3 episodes a day, others watch none at all.
I started in May and finished in September and It felt really good once I finished it all
I might try to convince a friend to watch it with me again the same way this year, since I find it entertaining when I watch with someone else.

I've only watched all the series in order once. It took a pretty long time lol, probably a year and a half. Now I just kinda watch them all concurrently. This is where I'm at right now:
DB - The Ninja Murasaki (Funi dub) <----------- Best episode ever!
DBZ blurays - Princess Snake (Funi w/Japanese)
DBGT - Super Saiyan 4 (Funi w/Japanese)
DB Kai - somewhere in the Trunks saga (Funi dub)
Movies - 1st Broly Movie (Funi w/American)

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
Yeah I try and change things up too when I can. Last year when Kai was airing on TV and was showing the Saiyan and Frieza sagas a lot I intentionally watched the Buu saga in Z because I knew that Kai would eventually be airing the Android/Cell sagas and I didn't want to watch too much of the same thing. Also while the Android saga of Kai aired on TV I also happened to get the Rock the Dragon set so I rewatched the Saiyan and Namek sagas of Z while Kai was further on. From there I continued to watch Z via the orange bricks in full dub version until the end of Season 4. Unfortunately I ended up having to put my Z watchthrough on hold as Kix happened to air the Cell saga of Kai the same time I was due to start it on the Orange Bricks. I guess I'll wait a good while and then continue with Z, although knowing my luck the Buu saga of Kai will air when I reach it in Z
. It's really a real balancing act.
And I've also been meaning to watch the entire series in Japanese at some point. I've seen most of the major battles in Japanese already but it has been a long time and I do feel like I'm gaining a greater appreciation for the Japanese cast recently which I'd like to explore further.
And I'm rewatching the original DB for the 2nd time in the last couple of years. GT I haven't seen in full for almost a decade so I'm looking forward to getting the UK Yellow/Green Bricks.

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
Well, it's hard to count TV airings of Z since the season breaks would result in YTV just re-showing Z from the beginning and I would always watch it anyway. So I'd probably need a decimal to account for how many times I watched through Z on TV.
Recently, it seems every 2-3 years I, for some reason or another*, decide to go on a Dragon Ball binge.
Dragon Ball I saw once on TV (Blue Water dub) and have now watched twice on my Blue Bricks.
Dragon Ball Z I watched through my brother's Orange bricks...not sure if I did so once or twice.
Dragon Ball GT I saw once on TV (Blue Water dub), another time watching online, and I think once or twice more with the Green Bricks.
Dragon Ball Kai (what there is of it so far anyway) I've watched through 3 times at this point (once online, mostly TV rips, twice on blu-rays/DVDs).
I'm probably going to watch GT again soon since I'm still in the middle of my current binge.
*FUNimation's announcement on Facebook of the new blu-rays is actually what triggered the current binge.

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
Rarely. I'm only rewatching Dragon Ball because of my bf. Once we're finally done watching that, we'll be getting Kai. I told him I can't sit through the non-cut version of Z because the pacing is just too slow for me.

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
Not that often, I could spend that time rewatching DB\Z doing so many other things, least of which watching other anime or reading manga. Occasionally though I feel like revisiting another fight\moment, so I only rewatch certain episodes. I think the only other time I'd rewatch the whole series (including original DB) is if I were watching it with someone else, girlfriend or whoever, or when I watch Kai, which I haven't gotten around to seeing yet.

I try to watch Z at-least once a year. right now I'm going through the original series so I'm gonna get that done and Z next. Maybe...GT.
not a big fan of that haha but the movies vary really. just whenever I feel like watching them.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I watch the entire series once every two years.
BT3 off meds | The final fight
Ah, the Alpha and the Omega. As all life was created from Chaos...so shall it be DESTROYED!!!
The wails of machines | Singing cold harmony | Shifting air upward | Entranced by the breeze | Light pours like blood | Into a cosmic sea | Of stars crystallized | In a frozen symphony

I am afraid by watching it so much though that I will loose that passion about it. I been watching Toriko and I get the same feeling from that like I did with Dragonball.

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
I haven't watched the whole series of Dragon Ball / Z / GT for a while now.. but I have actually just started re-watching DB last night, and plan on getting through the whole show in a few weeks each night after work.
The picture quality on the Aussie Madman DVDs is really good.
I watched Kai all the way through when the last Blu-Ray Season came out, so after Dragon Ball i'll probably start watching Z again.

Re: How often do you rewatch the series?
I used to go on a DBZ-GT dub binge every year or two, from a torrent or something, then the last time I watched the series, in 2011-2012, got the blue bricks, dragon boxes Z and green bricks and watched DB-Z-GT in Japanese. I'd never go back to watching the dub or starting 153 episodes in anymore. That took me over a year though, because I have far less time than I used to, so I'll probably be trying to leave larger gaps between rewatches now, or I'd never do anything else. At around the time that I last watched the series, though, I also joined Kanzenshuu, and I'm still here. Reading and posting on Kanzenshuu, and worrying about additions and improvements to my collection, keeps Dragon Ball in my mind, but I'm not sure how that will affect how long I wait before I watch the series again.
I've read the manga three, maybe four, times in about 7 years, too, but that doesn't take anywhere near as long.

I've seen DB anime twice, Saiyan-Namek arc 4 times, Cell-Buu arcs twice, and GT anime once.
Read the manga in 2010.

I'm going through Z for the 3th time in 4 years now, thought this time I'm watching it in Japanese. I guess it's safe to say I'm watching it about once every 1,5 year.
I've completed Dragon Ball for the second time last summer.
I've only seen GT once, so I think I'll go straight to that after I'm done with Z.
I've watched Kai once as well.
