How did Piccolo get to King Kai's planet?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

How did Piccolo get to King Kai's planet?

Post by roscaifed » Mon Jan 06, 2014 7:22 pm

During the Namek Saga, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu and Piccolo arrive at King Kai's planet after being killed in the saiyan saga. My question is, why was Piccolo allowed to be in 'Heaven' rather than 'Hell?'. At that point in the series Piccolo's main aim was still to rule the earth, although Gohan had a major impact on him and his beliefs. At that stage he hadn't fused back with Kami yet either. It seems weird that Piccolo would be allowed that privilege at that point in the series.

Kaio's Planet isn't in Heaven. Heaven is a different, huge planet in AfterLife.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Yeah I get that, what I mean is why wasn't he forced down to hell by king yama? If he hadn't been contained in hell then he must have been granted access to heaven. You don't see frieza or Cell roaming about because they are stuck in hell and can't escape....obviously they are put there later in the series

I doubt his main goal was to rule the Earth at that point.

Also, Piccolo never actually killed anyone, aside from Raditz and Goku. Sure he was a bad guy to begin with, but by the time he died, he had reformed, and he sacrificed himself to save the son of his former enemy. As far as redemption goes, that seemed good enough for Enma.

Kami managed to persuade Enma somehow.

Kami probably vouched for him. Or perhaps that whole "only in Hell temporarily before being cleansed and reincarnated" thing wouldn't bode too well for them.

Reading this thread really got me thinking about other implications pertaining to Piccolo's training with Kaio. You guys make good points about Piccolo maintaining his soul, since reincarnation would probably affect Kami's existence, but how could he keep his body? As I understood it, you needed to be pure good and an exceptional hero to keep your body; like riding Kinto'un it was a privileged reserved for the most purer hearted of warriors. I honestly have a hard time believing that Yamcha, Chatzou and Tenshinhan kept their bodies since they are not entirely pure of heart (in fact, they were technically bad for a longer duration then they were good, if you think about it), but I can let that slid since they did prove themselves to be ultimately warriors of pure intent later on and they did save the freaking Earth, but how the heck did Piccolo keep his body. I can understand Kami's influence in regards to Piccolo's soul because that would have jeopardized his existence, but at this point in the series they despised each other a lot and I seriously doubt that Kami would beg Emma to grant Piccolo such an extreme honor and privilege as keeping his body. I still kind of find the soul thing hard to believe, since arguing that his sacrifice for Gohan exonerated him of his evils is like arguing that Vegeta's self-destruction sacrifice exonerated him, when it clearly didn't.

I always assumed Piccolo, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu were all given a "pass" to go to King Kai's planet to train. I always assumed that is why they were also allowed to keep their bodies. As for Piccolo specifically, I just figured he had done enough good (agreeing to ally with his archrival to save the Earth and rescue his son, sacrificing himself to save Gohan) to merit not having to make a stop in Hell.
Kami is my co-pilot.
