Oh, just great. I've bought every DVD so far & have the two boxes. Now my second box won't be filled completely.

Hi guys.
Can I ask you a question? In your opinion, if you had to speculate, when would you say Funimation will have the entire DBZ series out and complete, with the release of these new season box sets? Do you think they will release a season box set once every, say, couple of months?

Until we find out a date for Season Two from FUNimation, there is no way to honestly tell when we can expect to see the entire series in season sets. I would have to speculate that they may be released from three to six months apart to allow fans to save up enough money for the next set and to watch all 39 episodes. We just won't know until later.

That's what happens when you have a weekly TV show from 1989 to 1995.
Actually, it's what happens when you get bad masters for a weekely TV show from 1989 to 1995. Saint Seiya, an older series, sounded fine (from what I can remember) on it's DVD release, though my memory is kinda fuzzy on that.
This is true, because I
still have some old VHS tapes, with Dragon Ball Z episodes in Japanese w/ subs, that I bought a long time ago (back in '98 or '99). And even though the picture quality isn't great, the sound quality on them is crystal clear, and on par with the FUNimation dubbed audio. I'm not kidding. I bet FUNimation can't do anything about it anyway. They probably tried to clean it up as much as possible. Man, sometimes the Japanese audio on the FUNi DVDs makes my speakers pop at a certain volume.

Oh well. It's better than nothing.
I wonder how the Dragon Box sets sound compared to FUNimation's Japanese audio.

With the TV series, it sounds better. No popping and generally, you can get it louder than funimation's discs without any problems.
Movies, OTOH, are a vast improvement, even for simple Mono.

Also, sometimes the audio suddenly "drops", and everything gets mute on the FUNimation's discs. On the UUE DVDs, I've alreay noticed that ln the episode where Nappa blows up the news helicopter, and when King Kai speaks to Goku before he trains him. There are numerous instances when the Japanese audio hissed and crackled as well, the eyecatchers being the most notable. Yeah, sometimes the DBZ audio sound can really sound like shit. And even though the Saiyan Saga that's on the UUE is only 16/17 years old, but judging by its Japanese version's audio "quality", it sounds like it's seventy years old. Even the old Popeye or Felix the Cat cartoons that were produced in mono sound in 1930's, even they did not have such shitty audio quality when they got re-issued on DVDs, like the Japanese version of DBZ on FUNimation's DVD releases did.

Seems like FUNimation has figured out everything BUT how to encode DVDs...

I liked the DVDs but I still wish funimation could get a hold of the original masters used in the dragonbox set. But that will never happen.

Aww, darn I forgot about that news post, but I really do hope that the new box sets uses the dragonbox masters.

It has probably already been asked and answered by someone else but this "Ultimate Uncut Edition", has it been released in box sets yet?
I bought the first DVD with the first three episodes but it was way too expensive.
If there are box sets, where can I get them from? I've looked all over the net, I need somewhere in the UK or that ships to the UK.

Currently, the Ultimate Uncut edition is at volume 9, but the release has been cancelled, so there won't be any more Ultimate Uncut DVDs. There will also be no boxsets released based on this version.
Next year, on the other hand, starting Febuary, there will be new boxsets, containing more episodes at a much lesser price. These may or may not use the Dragonbox remaster footage or some kind of actually decent masters.
DVDpacific.com is a good place to order R1 DVDs from if you're in the UK. lEgit, cheap, and good rates on shipping.

I just thought I'd point out this box set for the Vegeta saga, as it hasn't been mentioned in the podcast. I've been getting emails telling me that it will ship on time.

I wouldn't trust that just because Funimation themselves have said that they delayed the set until February.

It looks like it's the first 6 UU DVDs in a box set, so it could be different from the one due out next year.

The first UU set was seven discs and this set appears to be the season set that was originally set for this month and then delayed until a future date.

Good for you! Unfortunatley, when I put mine on ebay (just vols. 1-9, not movie 1) I only made about $45.
