Curious about the Spain DVD (2013) releases for DBZ

Post by Famicon3DS » Sat Jan 11, 2014 2:30 pm

What exactly do they look like in terms of video quality? Are they similar to the DBox masters? And do they have NEPs and Japanese title cards?

I'm a kind of OCD Purist fan. :P

I want to find a good Dragon Ball Z DVD release regardless of country as long as it has the Japanese NEPs, title cards and good video quality. :)

Wait there was a new DBZ release in 2013? Damn that really got under the radar.

Thanks to Amazon and DVDGO there's some info (which was already on the DVD rear cover).

I couldn't find much more than this, though it's interesting that it says "new remastered edition" so I wonder how it really looks like (it's probably a repackage of the old DVD sets).

I can give information here :D

It's not a repack, but a new remaster. The original version's remaster got outdated shortly after the release, and it caused a ghosting effect when viewed on TVs.
This new version remasters the footage with a different technique named DIGITAL VISION PHOENIX and there is no ghosting effect. The NTSC masters were converted to PAL 576i (interlaced) in the previous version, and they're now PAL 576p (progressive). The audio tracks are the same.
The footage quality is slightly color-corrected Dragon Box: the colors are a bit (only a bit) brighter, and that pink tint many people complain about is not present.

The title cards are in Japanese. If they haven't changed it from the previous release, the NEPs are not included in the episode, but in the extras (there is a section called "unreleased previews"), and they're in Japanese with no subtitles.
But maybe someone who does own it can say it better, I can only talk about the previous release and the information available online. Maybe the NEPs are included in their proper place and subtitled in this version.

They removed the grain, and DNR-ed them pretty damn hard too, I read.

From what I've heard, there is grain, but not too much.
The Spanish remasters have never been as intrusive as the American ones.

It would be nice if someone had the DVDs to share some screens.

From the old remastered DVDs it had cool extras like these, and the covers were also better looking.

DBZ Remastered Vol. 3 - La Saga de los Saiyans
Dragon Ball Z Budokai, Opening del Videojuego
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3, Opening del Videojuego
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi, Opening del Videojuego
Dragon Ball Z, Opening karaoke
Dragon Ball Z, Ending karaoke
Opening Doblados

Not only did this not fly under the radar, it's already been discussed. They're not what you're looking for, Famicon3DS.

Imagine the Orange Bricks in 4:3 but with leftover issues of going from interlaced to progressive. http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... 9&start=20

I think there was a video of Goku vs Kame Sennin from the Dragon Ball set that showed said issues, can't remember where it was.
