Question about FUNi! (Seasons 1+2 Re-dub)

With American DBZ popularity waning quite a bit, do you guys think that these new redubbed episodes will see the light of day on CN?

I doubt it. I figure it will be a special video-only thing. Considering how at this point those episodes are going on eight-years-old and have rerun countless times already, the redub/sub is likely best marketable to the more hardcore fans. Plus, they'd have to edit it again for TV anyway. There's no way it would air totally uncut on CN, at least because of all the naked Gohan. Making an edited version of a new dub that relies on being the "uncut" version is pretty silly, I think.

I think TripleRach hit the nail on the head there. Why go through the extra expense and time of re-editing those sets of episodes for really no profit when you can just keep with the already T.V. suitable ones that are around? From a business point of view, which is what Funi will take, it's sheer stupidity. As a matter of fact, it's smarter to just offer it on video and DVD, because then the people that really want to see it will have no choice but to purchase the episodes, meaning more profit for Funi.

Jerseymilk, I meant no other company that's dubbed DBZ. Sure Ocean Group had some top notch voice actors, but their script was craptastic. not to mention the BGM. Id have to agree with Cardcaptors, but look at Yu-gi-oh, they cut out the entire first season. Then again, American fans are probably too young to realise it, or care.

And yes Yugi-Oh! is also bad because of the editing(like hands that have had the guns digitally erased), and many voices that don't fit the characters, but a lot of the actors themselves are good. They're the same people that do the dubbed Pokemon and the dubbed version of Slayers, which is actually one of the few dubs, I enjoy. They actually didn't cut out the first season. It's actually a series and not a season and it focused more on different games in general, with the Duel Monsters card game just making appearances now and then. And it actually wasn't that popular in Japan. Yugi-Oh! didn't get popular until the second series came and the plot shifted to focus on the card game. That's the one that they brought over here, since it was certainly more marketable.

Not to mention that the first and second seasons were produced and created by two different companies. TV Asahi aired the first season, while TV Tokyo is the station that airs Duel Monsters now. I'm not sure who the animators are or the actual company that produces the episodes, but it appears that 4Kids has only licensed shows aired on TV Tokyo.

Also, Season 1 and 2 re-dubs, as already stated would be more profitable if sold on VHS/DVD only.

Many of the voice actors also changed for the two series. Ogata Megumi(Shinji of Evangelion fame), originally played Yugi and then when the second series came, the part was given to Kazama Shunsuke, a singer from a boys idol group. At least every girls' all time favourite seiyuu, Midorikawa Hikaru is still doing Kaiba Seto. They probably would have all had anarisms if he had been replaced.

Wow really!? He did do #16 and Paikuhan DBZ as well, so maybe that's not so suprising. I only mentioned girls because he is one of the biggies, along with Koyasu Takehito and Seki Tomokazu. Well, there you go folks! Midorikawa's so hot that even VegettoEX likes him!!!
