I'm not sure if this is something I would change, but I'd like to know what people think anyway.

Daikaioshin was immortal, and Majin Buu become immortal by absorbing him, which was why for most of the arc he literally could not be destroyed, even by Vegeta's explosion or having his chunks burnt. Kaioshin tells Gohan the tale of Buu attacking the Kaioshin realm and absorbing South Kaioshin and Daikaioshin while he is training with the Z-sword. Perhaps when Gray Buu absorbs fat Buu, that whole mechanism becomes relevant and the story is told.

Later, in the battle against Super Buu, either Gohan or Vegito (With Goku's knowledge of Buu's immortality, and Vegeta's cunning) comes up with the plan of allowing himself to be absorbed and putting up the shield, not just to try to save his friends, but in the hope of removing Daikaioshin so that Buu becomes beatable. After Fat Buu is removed, Pure Buu could be defeated by Gohan, or by the spirit bomb as usual, if things play out like they did and Gohan dies. Even if Fat Buu is still immortal, he simply doesn't have the power to take on Pure Buu.

Perhaps, instead of the Z-sword, it could have been some blade thought to be "demonic" or something, that Kaioshin brought Gohan to. Maybe when Gohan got to the Kaioshin realm, Kaioshin told Buu's backstory, said that since Buu survived Vegeta's attack what he'd been afraid of must be true and Buu must have become immortal, and suggested using something evil to counter the pure power of Daikaioshin.

Personally, I'm not sure if I like the structure of four Kaios, their leader, four Kaioshin, their leader. I think it might be better if there was only one Kaioshin, which was the immortal, powerful Daikaioshin up until he was absorbed by Buu. Who we know as East Kaioshin was simply one of the most powerful Kaios, who had to rise to take the place of the Kaioshin, which explains why he seems less wise and powerful than the highest god in the universe should be. Old Kaio would then also be just an ordinary Kaio.

What I actually would change, is having it be the dragon balls, rather than the dragon radar, that needs rescuing from Metro-West. We've seen new dragon radars being created before, but the dragon balls are irreplaceable on a short timescale. Maybe I'd rather have #17 turn up to the Super Buu battle rather than Tenshinhan, just to give him a bit of well-deserved screen-time and because he wasn't killed by the human-extinction attack because he doesn't have a ki for Buu to sense.

Just a bit of trimming would make everything work a bit better.

The gray Buu and kid Buu would be combined into a consistent entity. The buff Buu would not exist.

Gohan's impact on the story would be a bit more meaningful. Another post said something about him letting himself get absorbed and pulling a Vegetto. I like this, but could buy it unfolding where after he saves everybody and reduces Buu to a lower form, the pink bastard blows up the planet while Gohan is in a weakened state from battle. This results in Goku (still on Kaioshin's planet) powering up to draw Majin Buu to him. Meanwhile, King Enma sends Vegeta there for his "one day" to help out. The heroes play out their necessarily conflict / mutual acknowledgement during the battle and it generally plays out the same as it did originally from there.

This would make Goku/Vegeta fusion a movie only thing, but I love movie 12 so that works fine for me.

If I was only allowed to change the Buu Saga and nothing from earlier in the anime/manga, here's what I would change:

-I'd make Piccolo more powerful. I would make him stronger than Supreme Kai, and strong enough to fight Dabura. Dabura would also be weaker than Perfect Cell was, and about even with Piccolo, who's as strong as Goku was during the Cell Games. Instead of Gohan, it's Piccolo who fights Dabura. He wouldn't have a significant fighting role once Buu shows up, but I'd have him make one more good account of himself before settling down into the mentor role.

-I'd change Buu so that he isn't so much like Cell but better. No absorbing people, no infinite regeneration. He's rubbery and malleable but he's still "solid", and he can't liquify himself or anything. He can still turn people into candy, though. And like I said, he doesn't absorb people. His "fat" form is what he actually looks like. No Thin Buu, Super Buu, Ultimate Buu, or Pure Buu; I'm tired of bad guys with tons of different forms. I'd also make it to where he's not much more powerful than Cell; he just happens to have all kinds of magical and reality-warping abilities (kind of like Fat Janemba) that make frontal assaults with brute force really really really hard. Goku and Vegeta may have to actually use strategy to get around his weird powers.

-Buu isn't a creation of Bibidi. Again, that's too much like Doctor Gero and Cell. He's just an ancient being that was locked away and then awoken by Babidi.

-Super Buu, Thin Buu, and Pure Buu can make appearances, but they're totally different individuals. Maybe the Buus are an ancient race or something, even older than the Shin-jin, and there's more than one. Maybe Babidi originally awakens Fat Buu, but Fat Buu turns out to be more comedic and fun-loving, so he goes and awakens one of the other, more evil Buus. Just an idea.

-Goten and Kid Trunks aren't Super Saiyans, although Gotenks can become a Super Saiyan right off the bat.

-There's no "Super Saiyan 2" or "Super Saiyan 3". Goku just gets stronger after training in Other World so that he's now stronger than Cell and even Gohan were, but it's not because he unlocked new transformations. Vegeta is also only a little stronger than Piccolo, maybe close to equal to what Cell was, but gets a power-up when he voluntarily allows Babidi to turn him into a Majin.

Oh yeah, I'd have those. Although maybe I'd only have Gotenks be a Super Saiyan after training in the RoSaT, like originally he was SSJ3 at that point.

I would have gotten rid of Buu altogether. I cant find any way to really redeem him as a villain due to how horrible he just is as a villain.

Majin Vegeta should have just been an extended arc. Where he wants to fight SSJ2 Gohan, then SSJ2 Goku or loses to SSJ3 Goku.
Its hard to really rewrite it because of how overly simplistic the Buu saga was. Its hard for me to decide what would have worked better simply because Buu has no goal, no backstory, no personality besides whining and screaming.

If I could I would have just swapped Buu with the same events take place. SSJ2 Goku vs Majin/Baby Vegeta Form 1.
Then Swap Super Buu (Gohan) with Super Baby Gohan. / Goku and Gogeta fuse into Gogeta instead of Vegito.
Then fight Baby in his original form, instead of kid Buu....

Alterations
-I would also balance the mistakes by makin Goten NOT a super Saiyan right away but earn it through battle.
-I would Keep trunks a SSJ and explain it due to the fact that his future self-achieved it and it changed history in their time.
-I would have had someone explain that Trunks and Goten had their tails removed at birth to prevent their Oozaru forms from hurting them and the fact that they dont need it anymore in place of looking towards SSJ.
- I would make Goten and Trunks fuse with the Potaras instead of the dance to make them Gotenks perminently. Seeing as how they're both useless characters seperately.
- I would have Gohan actually beat Super Buu but lose because Buu tricks him, not because Gohan's of stupidity.
- I would give Buu a backstory. As I suggested before, He was an incomplete creation as a failed God of Destruction.
- I would NOT make Super Buu so unbarably cocky and whiny... I would make him intelligent like he was with Gotenks and Piccolo inside him despite Gohan as his current avatar.
- I would not have his fight with Vegito drag out so long unless they were going to be serious about the fight the entire time like Gohan and Buu(Gotenks) were.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

SingleFringe&Sparks, I like most or all of your idea's and enjoyed reading about them. I would still keep Buu, but the failed "god of destruction" aspect would tie into things a lot better, sans the fact Battle of Gods was released so long after the Buu arc.

There is no SS3. Goku delays/impresses Buu by using the Super Kaioken, but he also doesn't have to delay as long since Trunks doesn't stop to watch. Vegeta is still pissed because Goku could've used it during their fight.

Gotenks and Gohan the same.

Goku and Vegeta use the Fusion Dance, which wears off just as Gogeta escapes Buu's body with the kids, leaving them surprised and in trouble when Kid Buu shows up. Or I guess make some altering to the Potara so it's not FOREVERS AND EVERS AN-itsbroken if Movie 12 still gets a lock on the Dance.

Also Kibitokai joins in the fight vs Kid Buu.

I would have kept everything the same, except Daburra should have been using Babidi and killed him once Boo was unleashed. He manipulated Vegeta into Majin from the beginning and planned for him to break open fat Buu as a portal to hell. Then it would have been a call back to the King Piccolo arc, but WAY darker and brutal. You could have some perverse demons in there terrorizing the citizens, so you could balance the humor element. Everyone would need to work together and fusions would have been necessary.

You could have civilians help the Z fighters fight as well. It would be so interesting and shoe that whole thing of deep down "Men are good". Bunch of morality involved and tons of twists and turns. I think it would have been really cool to have Gohan fight Daburra with the Z Sword in one of the climatic battles. I would still have the spirit bomb ending it all. It would be really cool to have the "Goodness" of humanity take down hell.

Piccolo and Gohan fuse instead of Gotenks. The entire point of Fusion was to enable older, weaker fighters to be relevant again, and after Goku and Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo are the two big fighters with history together.

Copy and paste Movie 12, adding Majin Vegeta (Piccolohan fights Boo while Goku's preoccupied) and replacing Janemba with Fat and Kid Boo.

For the people saying that the guys that die should have stayed dead; in my opinion that goes against the nature of the series. Totally disagree with that.

Personally, I would leave it as is. Maybe change Supreme Kai a little bit. I love the Buu saga as it is.
