Why was Kai poorly advertise in the US?

Post by Hellspawn28 » Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:26 pm

It been almost three or four years since Kai started in the US and I still feel like Kai didn't make DBZ popular again. I feel like not much has change after GT ended. When Kai was coming out, a lot of people had high hopes that Kai would put DBZ back on the market in the US and DBZ will become big again. Kai had very little marketing since there's was ads for it on Nick Toons and CW. So where's the toys for the kids to play with, the coloring books, happy meal toys and the other cool stuff for kids?

If you look at kids shows like TMNT, Power Rangers, Adventure Time, Transformers Prime, Ben-10, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon that they have much better promotion compare to Kai. I still feel like not enough people know about Kai outside the anime fandom. Fans may hate the new Power Rangers show, but at least Samurai help the series be more relevant again with stuff like a huge toy line, lots of interactive material (Facebook, website, etc.), Thanksgiving Parades and even trips to the White House. I don't see why Funi and Bandai America didn't bother marketing Kai better. If Samurai can make Power Rangers mainstream (Not as big MMPR though) then I imagine Kai could have as well if there was enough marketing for it. I don't think Kai would have made DBZ as big as it was from 1998 - 2003, but I think it could have made the franchise more relevant.

Well to be fair, Nicktoons isn't a very popular network and a lot of people don't even have access to it as a tv channel. Also as far as the lack of merchandise and tie-ins are concerned, I dont think Funimation really has time for stuff like that anymore. Nowadays Funimation is a very busy dubbing company compared to how they were in the year 2000 when Dbz was pretty much the only thing they dubbed to my knowledge.
